All youtubers and producers say to make relationships with other producers, but i have no clue how to do that. I was wondering if you could tell me how or maybe you could message me or tell me if you are having the same problem. I think if i knew other producers decently well Id be able to get more advice, and make better music because i started in producing edm the past few months and I'm trying to find my style.
Thank you if you respond

For the famous producers out there in the wild: do you have (and use) Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, whatever social media? Use that to get connected!
For just getting advice of us random folks on getting better at production, try the Music Cafe or Production Techniques sections here.

Hi, I'm a busy producer and I don't mind at all making time in my overloaded schedule to help out a total novice and give away all my hard-earned knowledge and experience.
NOT!
You make friends online in the same way as you do in the real world - find out where people hang out and interact with them. Go to it!
And, seriously, all the best.
Ps
And forget about "finding your style" - that will come of itself, in time. You don't think that the likes of David Guetta et al agonised over "finding their style", do you?

join a community for the type of music you make and give others feedback on their songs and they will do the same for you. Good way to learn and meet others.

This worked for me - started posting my creations as soon as I felt confident enough to put them out there, got feedback (not all positive or helpful so be forewarned), sent tunes out to DJs who were playing similar music, then started getting response from DJs who had previously ignored my tunes as I wasn't "connected" to the original scene, then got support from journalists and then finally got a tune signed on a compilation from Soul Jazz records (and then managed to screw it all up with endless computer and personal problems, going to university and then finding less and less time after work to actually make tunes).ATS wrote:join a community for the type of music you make and give others feedback on their songs and they will do the same for you. I would say though that this was possible due to being on a relatively small forum (c.250 members when I joined, about 50k when I left), dedicated to a particular niche music (before it went global), and so it was easier to get people to pay attention and give advice. Many of the people there were either DJs, fans or other producers working within that scene so it was comparatively easy to make friends and network on the net and later IRL, DJs wanting fresh tunes, producers wanting exposure and fans looking for new developments and sounds.
EDM seems to be a big field, I'd maybe join up with several smaller forums that are trying to build a sound, or one with subforums for different styles within EDM. Much has changed since the late 00s when I was doing this (think soundcloud was only just starting and youtube was nowhere near as ubiquitous).
I'd also recommend Meetup.com to see if there are any people interested in meeting up for jams, production advice, or putting on gigs/club nights as you'll probably get more out of this than chatting with likeminded types on the other side of the planet.

Yeah the negative comments always hurt but the end up helping the most.shonky wrote:This worked for me - started posting my creations as soon as I felt confident enough to put them out there, got feedback (not all positive or helpful so be forewarned), sent tunes out to DJs who were playing similar music, then started getting response from DJs who had previously ignored my tunes as I wasn't "connected" to the original scene, then got support from journalists and then finally got a tune signed on a compilation from Soul Jazz records (and then managed to screw it all up with endless computer and personal problems, going to university and then finding less and less time after work to actually make tunes).ATS wrote:join a community for the type of music you make and give others feedback on their songs and they will do the same for you. meetup.com is a really good suggestion. There are tons of different groups that cater to all kinds of interests in all kinds of fields.
As for the dog eat dog, my time is money crap... highly esteemed producers and other professionals very often give their time and knowledge away for Nada, Mentoring or simply doing YouTube videos is not just about the dollar, it’s called giving something back to the community.
Buddy if you are in my area you can come around anytime for a coffee and a chat, even though I’m busy there’s always a little time to do something positive for others.
