Any recommendations for finding a good dub bass sound ... that low heavy-but-nimble rastah sound?

Sample or synth ideas welcome.

Also: Any recommendations on dub delay settings?

This is a new area for me and all thoughts and ideas are welcome.

thanx

Have you tried Hydra? or MDA Dub Delay?

Post

try using ilblit or polyilblit for creating a smooth, warm bass-sound and then try to work with some nice delays like the warpdelay or dubboxx or the very nice arcdev-delays to feed the sound with some dubby echoes?

In the past, I've used Rainbow, which has a really nice bass sound, Claw, Wasp and DaHornet amongst others. Also VB1 on ocassion.
I generally eq the top end pretty much right down, the low end up and play with the mids till it sounds right.

I'd have to load up and look at my tracks to remember exactly what I've used, but these are definite favourites.
If I get time later, I'll check it out for you.

Dub Delay - best thing is to play with it to find the kind of delay you want. It's pretty versatile and the slightest tweak can sometimes completely alter the effect. But it does have some wicked pure-dub effects. :) Essential if you wanna make dub - in my opinion, of course.
Also, have you tried the Dub Siren for some of those dubby effect sounds?

I'd go for bionic delay or retro delay if I were you.

both free and will do the trick if you want that Mad Professor/ Scientist kinda sound.

I've gotten good dub bass sounds by :

1. layering a real bass multisample (like a fender p-bass) that has a good midrange with a sine at the same pitch or an octave lower.

2. lowering the volume of the real bass to where you can just baring hear it.

3. sequence a line and run through something like PSP vintage warmer, PSP mixsaturator, or the Blockfish (freebie).
Not bad meaning bad but bad meaning good

Great responses. Thanx soulraka, glassback, krim, technoforum 8)

Another dumb question: How does one set a dub delay? I'm a total noob in this area. I can hear dub delay in my mind, but what does it mean in terms of settings, timings, tone.

So far I've most success with dotted rhythms.

Any other dub advice very welcome. This is a new interesting area for me, and I'm eager for any tips you can toss my way.

I'd be interested in playing some dub basslines for you, on a real bass! Forget those synths...

I like to think I'm quite versed in playing dub reggae bass lines.

PM me or reply here if you are interested.
