One - its fun to create something you personally think is cool and, Two - theres no better buzz than having created something and thinking its cool. The fact that other people might like it is a ego boosting bonus, thats why I keep my tunes to myself

I'm a do-er :!:

If I hear some music, I want to do it myself. Like NOW :!:

Listening is too passive

Playing is active, achieving :D

As for purpose?

There's a million but I used to like the free drugs backstage :dog:

But these days it's often to get away from the kids and the endless boring telly

What about Billy Joel?

Just because he made a tape or was in a band? Or just because he was already wealthy and famous?

Ok, my first post here at KVR. :D I think your reasons change over the years. I am 39 and have been playing in bands since I was 12. Back then, it was for the thirst of learning songs I wanted to play and, of course, the friendly competition between other bands in the neighborhood. Then as I got older, the stars and visions of tour buses got into my head and I strove for that. World tour was my goal. Then I go so sick of trying to "make it" that I joined a cover band just to PLAY. Now that was pure selfish indulgence. Groupies, drugs, booze, divorce, hospitals, you see where this ended. Then I said F**k it all, I quit and did nothing musically for years.

Then about 9 months ago, I discovered soft synths and was right back into writing. I did this out of that interest but found that because I was doing it purely for fun, it was much more fulfilling. Now, of course, as I am sending stuff to interested friends and family, they say "you should release a cd", and have even had interest from some industry types and I find myself questioning my motives. Do I want to be LOCKED into this, where I have no choice but to do it? Or have I matured enough that I could control myself and enjoy it for what it is, a great privilege. Or is it my EGO wanting to be fed... And yes, I think anyone here who says they don't fish for compliments when posting their music is lying to themselves, especially when they know it is good. I am guilty of that as well. We have a need for other people to validate our music. And anyone who says no, tell me you don't feel a twinge when someone tears apart one of your tunes... In all, I think I do it now for fulfullment although that could change any day...(sorry for such a long first post!!)

Yeah, it was really cool. I had taken about 5 years off and everything was so fresh. My guitar playing (I am a guitarist first and foremost) was a bit rusty but that came back quickly. I was so out of the loop that I didn't know anything about DAW's, vsti's, etc. Luckily, I was into Pc gaming and had a pretty killer rig so I was ready for it. I just had to invest in the softs. All I can say is that is a different world from 1991, which was the last time before recently that I had been recording and writing...

Thank you for the welcome and vurt, I will post up something as soon as I find a suitable hosting place for my stuff. Any suggestions for a host would be cool. Hard to put up my stuff after what I wrote, hehe. It's all your fault vurt, you asked  My ego has nothing to do with this...
