The update from 9 is 60 euro. 10 euro higher than 8.5 update. They also raised the price of the update of Wavelab. This is not a good sign. That's 160 for a regular upgrade. More expensive than updates of most DAWs

Be thankful you are not an Ableton user.

Why? Live 9.5 wasn't a paid update.

In Abletons defense its been 5 years.
I bet Cubase customers if they updated each version in that time span have spent the same 300$.
Just not all at once per say.

As for the Cubase upgrade it looks awesome, looks like Steinberg listened to their customers (going on what id seen requested on this website) only wish they gave us an option to not have a dongle. That's one of the main reasons I haven't bit the bait on Cubase despite being envious of some of it's features.
The post above this is likely bait, viewer discretion is advised.

Ableton don't charge for .5 updates.

Steinberg site is a bit unreliable this morning. I started watching the upgrade videos, and they kept cutting out. Probably due to all the new release traffic.

Looks like a great upgrade though. Instant MIDI render to Audio on the Sampler track? Get out of town...

Also, the mastering suite looks great. Cubase continues their fairly recent trend of providing in-the-box gear that is very competitive with third party products. Will probably skip the latest T-Racks update as a result.

So many plugins, so little time...

I'm probably just stupid, but what's the difference between Sampler Track and regular Sampler instrument?

Indeed, then you;'d have to put up with loads of free updates, no dongle, not owned by a shit parent company etc. etc.

Just imagine the horror!

And that's it? How is it any more convenient from e.g. Ableton, where if you drag sample to a timeline it will create an audio track, but if you drag it to device panel it will load it into sampler? I don't get all the fuss about it :)

Nice. I was wondering for years who was going to be the first to rip the handy pre/post thing from Ardour, which is a great feature, dragging a line (or a fader object in Ardour) to determine which plugins are pre and post fader.

Steiny is doing exactly what all good developers should be doing, copying some handy smaller things from multiple places and not trying to always re-invent the wheel, like the new Automation Range Tool.
