I've notice that on the acoustic guitar CD the nylon patches (all of them) the two samples G#2-A#2 and B2 sound totally different from the other samples, making these few patches useless.
I just made the ST conversion, but I don't think it's related to it.
Otherwise, the electric and acoustic capsules are pretty good, and some nice work has been done on the fx side as well (ST2).
But I'm very disappointed by the Bass capsule, lot's of patches with less than 1 mb of samples, totally dull and worthless. Also the box says over 400 mb of samples and there are about 310 mb of them. I wouldn’t mind if these 300 mb where great but, well ..

I'm a little surprised by this.mbncp wrote: I'm very disappointed by the Bass capsule, lot's of patches with less than 1 mb of samples, totally dull and worthless. Also the box says over 400 mb of samples and there are about 310 mb of them. I wouldn’t mind if these 300 mb where great but, well ..
Can you provide any comparisons to other Bass libraries or patches?
I did a quick runthrough of the patches in ST-XL at the shop where I work, particularly looking for Bass. I was a bit uninspired until I got to the SR Bass Collection.
I've been assuming that a lot of that content, or at least similar Basses, are included in the Bass Capsule. As I'm about 12 beer bottles away from ordering the Bass Capsule, any further comment would be appreciated.

Not really, I was just comparing to the real thing, I should have stated that among the few instrument I play, the bass is my favorite
.
And I've been very often disappointed by the sound I found on various samples collection.
But how do you want a sample to sound good with 1 mb of material ( 2-4 pitches, single velocity).
Now of course they are not all like that, the 10 larges patch range from 10 - 30 mb, then 10 5-9 mb and about 40 with less than 5 mb.
Also, if I take the largest patch (K5 Str Pck F) the second sample sounds a bit weird, not as obvious as the nylon guitar problem though.
Actually I would have prefered 5-10 different basses with multiple velocity layers, instead of having to go thru ~70 patches (not counting the fx version) and trying to figure out which one to use
Now, don’t get me wrong, for the price, it’s still a nice collection to have, and with the diversity you may just find what you need. Maybe I just put my expectations to high.

Regarding the Acoustic Guitar Capsule, the particular timbre of notes you are hearing is not a bug. These are sounds that come from the instrument itself. Of course, whether one likes the particular timbre of notes or not is entirely subjective. I like them. Notes don't have to sound the same as the ones next to them and for me I like it when they are varied. In a performance context that can make it sound more realistic sometimes. But, anyway, not every patch on every library will be useful to everyone.
You never know though. One can be surprised how well it works depending on the musical context. Sometimes you just don't like a sound and that's all there is to it. I happen to like all of the sounds on this library very much and that's why they are all on there! I actually axed a few before release that I didn't like... luck would have it others probably would have! Who knows? That's the nature of subjective material such as this. It's a pretty full library though.
Bass Capsule is different material from Bass Collection but in some ways it is similar in that it offers a lot of variety. Sure, some of the patches are 1-2 megs and like you said some are 10-30 megs. Basses tend to be a lot smaller than acoustic guitars. They are more simple tones and sometimes it just loops better early which can make them smaller. It's hard for me to comment because I personally don't care if a sound is 1 meg or 1 gig as long as it sounds good. I don't think the basses are dull and lifeless or I wouldn't have released them. I think they've got a wide range of nice tones to choose from and I've used them in musical context achieving very realistic results. I think it's a nice complement to the other capsules. It may not be as extensive as the Acoustic Gtr, Elec Gtr and Studio Drums (which probably are over the top by comparison really) but it is a solid library that gives the user some nice material for the money. There's also a lot of articulations such as thumps, pulls, slaps, harmonics etc.
Now, if one is a multi-instrumentalist who plays bass (and that is their favorite instrument)... Hey, I am the first one to tell you that nothing beats the real thing! This doesn't replace bass players. But, maybe sometimes you want a Hofner Beatle Bass or a certain vintage P-Bass or Jazz Bass sound, or a Jaco type sound or a smooth 5 string fretless... or maybe you just want to program up a track before you replace it with a real bass etc. Or perhaps a nice upright... So, it has its uses even for a bass player (maybe not as much though... I suck at real bass so for me it works out quite well! lol).
Anyway, we'll have some individual riffs demos so people can hear a variety of the patches and see if it subjectively works for them.
As usual we hope that the libraries give enough VFM to make it worth having regardless. I hope you can get the most out of it Marc!
