Are you joking? This is absurd. You are comparing a true synthesizer with a sample pack. Apples and Oranges.braj wrote:I know this isn't a totally fair comparison as Repro-1 is a fully programmable synth vs Pro-5 being a more limited romper, but I'd love to compare them regardless. Repro-5 is in open beta, but since that isn't fully out yet, I just included the mono version. I want to compare sound authenticity, not feature parity. Basically, is Pro-5 a reasonable Prophet sound source, or does Repro-1 outshine it? Repro-1 can be had right now for $99, while Pro-5 is on sale for $35 as a sound source for Sampletank CS or for as low as $150 as art of Syntronik. I got it for just over $75 buying gear credits in bulk, and using jam points. There is also a hard drive cost, Syntronik Pro-5 uses 2gb or so, but Repro-1 takes more CPU cycles.
Thoughts?
The only one that could be truly comparable (with REPro-5, but in the bundle you also get RePro-1) is Arturia Prophet-V.

It's not really that absurd when you consider preset patches, if the Syntronic Pro-V can reasonably get a good Prophet sound out of its method. No, they aren't directly comparable as synths, but as products I would say yeah, you can compare them. Maybe I posed the question wrong, and I said that before, 'vs' isn't really what I meant to do. Contrasting their strengths and weaknesses can be done though. ie. Syntronic doesn't take as much CPU resources and doesn't take very deep understanding to alter, but is limited, and Repro-1 (and 5) take less disk space (by a huge margin) but require a faster processor and deeper programming skills to master. Anyhow, I now own both, so yay for me.fmr wrote:Are you joking? This is absurd. You are comparing a true synthesizer with a sample pack. You could also say that Syntronic has a more flexible and accessible arp, and works with polyphony, while the Repro line only has an arp for the mono Repro-1. Or that Syntronic has a wider variety of effects and allows you to layer it with other synths beyond Prophets.

Will it still be eligible for a license transfer if you buy it there? I assume it is, but just making sure as I try to buy only stuff that I can resell if the financial situation calls for it.db3 wrote:Echoes in the Attic wrote: Yeah, I just jumped on this. U-he re the ones that actually issue the license, I'm pretty sure you can transfer it, and I think the following probably still applies to all U-he licenses:Mivo wrote:Will it still be eligible for a license transfer if you buy it there? from here:Licenses for MFM, Zebra, ACE and Uhbik can and will only be transferred after 9 months of ownership, and at no cost. This is my way of preventing fraud while at the same time sticking to a simple copy protection (serial number, works on multiple computers).

Yeah you can always transfer normal u-he licenses, no matter where originally purchased (new or used). You just have a pay a small fee if you've had it less than 9 months.Mivo wrote:Will it still be eligible for a license transfer if you buy it there?
