I took delivery of the group buy - and was impressed with the breadth of sounds. Thanks.

I have a question about the high hats in the GM kits: how do I get them to work properly? Specifically, Sonic Synth, SR Drums, GM map drum kits, Akoustik - doesn't work like I would expect.
If I hit the high hat open note, I get the high hat sound. That is good. But as soon as I release the high hat open note, the sound immediately stops. Shouldn't the high hat open sound gracefully die out even if I release the note?? Also - there seems to be no integration with the high hat closed sound. If I hit the high hat open ... and keep the note on (which I have to do in this case)...and then hit the closed hat - the high hat open keeps on making its sound after the closed hat sound is finished! It is impossible to get them to work together. All the Sonic Synth drum kits have this problem. This is in contrast to the ST2 drum kits that work properly.

I am using Sonar3PE if that make a difference.

Thanks
Ian

First, there is a way to alter the specific release times of any open hat. Hit the ZONE edit button and then adjust the "release" of env 1 to a time you prefer. If you have ST2 full you can save that back as a child preset. If you only have ST2 LE then you can save that back as a "module" or "combi" preset.

As to the closed stopping the open hi hat... I program it to do this sometimes, but a lot of times I find it to be distracting. So I do it both ways but more often I do it where it does cut it off... actually, not the closed but the FOOT which makes more sense. The foot of the hat would be the actual closing of it and the "closed" hit would have been already closed before it was struck... theoretically.

So, it is just a matter of how it was done. Sonic Synth 1 was done a while ago where I did it more to my tastes. Many other drum kits on the other libraries have the foot cutting off the open hat and I do this as well in the I-Map kits too.

Sometimes, one can tweak it to their own liking. I happen to like them the way they are and I just play the open hat and close it myself which is more fluid. When I want a decayed open hat I use another key (I like to call it the Bonham open hat). But, then I use the I-Map for that more.

Sonic Synth 1's main thing isn't really drums. You can look at them as a sort of "round out the set" bonus, even though it has a nice offering of them. It's main thing is pianos, organs, strings, synths...
