I use it almost all the time in logic ..

so you use tracktion+ext?

do you use ext in every track in tracktion or just the ones you want step recording in?
No I don't own eXT. Many people like using it in conjunction with Tracktion, but for myself I want songwriting to be LESS complicated, not more complicated. So only one host at a time ;)

That said, eXT is getting close to the point where it might be good enough all on its own...
yeah, energyxt seems good also because I like modular systems (I love reaktor, I build everything from scratch in it)...

but how's moving and editing big, comples chunks of information in it? is it as easy as in a "real" sequencer? or IS ext actually a real sequencer in every aspect? .. still haven't had time to test it .. been cleaning all night with the missus =)

moonlite, maybe I missed something but what exactly is the problem. EXT as suggested does exactly what your asking...have you even tried?
(Edit)...sorry just saw your last post ...let me know if you need any help, also come over to the EnergyXT forum here on KvR and check out Simons Commands guide to get familliar with key commands.

yeah, and actually I would like to know at least the names of as many hosts as possible (that support step record), since i'm trying out many different things presently .. since logic seems .. unconfortable, to me. and I've wasted a lot of time allready learning to use programs that don't have this to-me-essential step record function ..

logic, too, supports this step record, but it's not very handy in logic .. so i'd like many different suggestions about what to try.

it's changed name to revisit, and it's found here at kvr .. take a look and tell me if it's this one you mean?

Do you have any uploaded examples of your Reaktor ensembles?

I'd be intrigued to see them.

Have you looked at renoise?

This is newly updated, I'm pretty sure..It completely lost me, so maybe it's exactly what you're looking for :P

no, I haven't got any on the web right now, and they're actually not that complicated either, and are real messy, too, as I'm a pretty messy person ;))

I'm not very good at using reaktor, but I still love it ,) .. all i've done is some siple synths as an basic fm synth with some unusual mappings, a bassline which is in essence really basic but gives me better control over every envelope and parameter .. and a kickdrum machine with the same features ..

oh, and a really simple and basic delay with variable delay time ..

the sort of things even a n00b could construct in a hour of two ya know =) ..

.. but still, it lets the imagination fly .. and it's been a great learning tool about sound synthesis etc..

oh, the new version has came out :o I have to get that, too.. been wating for it for a while .. (and even put myself on their mailing list. and still they didn't notify me of the new version, after all, those bastards! ;))

I actually have made half a track with renoise, too. but the old version just seemed too much work, compared to sequencers, in making big (and detailed) changes in the song structure.

trackers come pretty naturally to me, since I grew up with them. respectively, sequencers represent banging my head to the wall 90% of the time trying to learn something new in a seq. I just don't seem level with sequencer designers in how things sould work =( ..

STILL i find seqs handyer for most of the work on a track

Nah, it's ok..I mostly use James Walker-Hall's, ew's, Rick Scott's, programchild's, deiter zobel's, Martin Brinkman's & a few of the other lunatics from the User Library..my bases are covered in Reaktor :D

uh, seems inerresting but the screenshot seems really confusing..

does sq4^2 really incorporate a "step recording" function? and not a "step sequencer" like fl and orion etc etc? these two methods don't have much in common, and this is extremely important to me, since I've wasted too much time allready learning how to use software that ends up totally useless to me.

As has been mentioned, FL Studio supports step recording in the piano roll. In fact, it might even support it in the step sequencer component as well, but I'm not so sure about this one.

I've never really used it myself (just once when trying it out) so I have no opinion on whether or not it is a good implementation. I prefer to draw in my semi-quavers etc on the piano roll using the mouse.

I'd be interested to hear what exactly you find not so handy about Logic's step recording.
You do know about the sustain pedal and the according key-commands ét all, do you?
