Hi :)
I don't download many Free Sample Packs, I pay for most of my samples. But this website called "BedroomProducers" has alot of fantastic resources on free sample packs, think of it as a giant archive in a way. Back when I was first starting I used it as my primary source of samples.
As for synths sound design is everything. What version of Ableton are you using? If your using Live 9 Suite Operator has been used by many dubstep producers including Skrillex for Basses.
As far as Free VSTs for basses go well. There is Dexed, there is TAL Noisemaker, there is Synth1, there is Helm,
All of these can be used to make sick basses and sounds if the sound design is there and you take time to learn them and practice them.
Also Serum, widely stereotyped as THE Dubstep Plugin is only 10/pr Month so its very affordable, but of course that is not free :hihi:
Oh and Air Hybrid 3, a fantastic commercial synth that has a lot of sonic potential is available for only 1 Dollar this Black Friday/Cyber Monday. Pick it up from Plugin Boutique, its really a no brainier :)
Also I use Bitwig and Ableton primarily. Plus a Little bit of FL Studio for remixes and a little bit of Reaper for audio.
The post above this is likely bait, viewer discretion is advised.
