Live 10 has colour co-ordinated favourites in the browser.barryfell wrote:
What other DAWs other than Bitwig at least have favoriting, which other than project sync'd sample preview is the bare essential IMO.
Functionality doesn't mean complexity. In fact it should mean more usability. Live's browser for example which only has sample time sync has much less usability compared with Cubase's Mediabay for example.
DAW with best media/file browser?

I just checked that out. Nice addition, and very quick to use which fits Live's rapid workflow ethic.thecontrolcentre wrote:Live 10 has colour co-ordinated favourites in the browser.barryfell wrote:

Thanks.
I personally still prefer to be able to rank out of 5 though. Live's colour system would soon run into issue trying to manage a more complex system.

Did you check out Cubase 9.5? The addition of the new "file browser" in the MediaBay tab on the right pretty much works like the Reaper browser now. No tagging, no scanning, just browsing through your files in real time incl. preview, stretching and so on. The fantastic thing is, that you can search multiple words e.g. "house kick" and it will find even a file just named "kick" but sitting in a folder called "Deep House Vol. 5" or something like that. This is pretty amazing, as this is not possible in Logic, Live or Studio One!
However, best DAW browser is hands down the one from Bitwig. All is possible there, favorites, multiple search words, searching just for wave files, just for midi files, just for vst presets and all without creating or tagging stuff like in the (old) MediaBay.

Yeah I have 9.5, but as I use three screens the new browser tab like last year's mixer tab are of no interest to me.tedannemann wrote:Did you check out Cubase 9.5? Can Bitwig's browser let you preview MIDI files using your current projects instruments in sync/MIDI inserts/mix context?
Is there anything Bitwig's can do that Cubase's can't?

No, this is only possible in Cubase, Reaper and Studio One afaik. Bitiwg will play / preview midifiles with a standard synth sound (cp. Ableton Live).barryfell wrote:Can Bitwig's browser let you preview MIDI files using your current projects instruments in sync/MIDI inserts/mix context?

Thanks, so missing quite a few things then. What it's lacking in more advanced functionality though it certainly looks nice and quick, and it appears Live 10 has basically copied it exactly!
I looked more into S1 and Reaper's and I think Cubase's seems to be the most comprehensive by a way.
Thanks for your replies.

Is there any DAW that allows you to open multiple file browser and audition loops in time? I've found Cubase won't allow me to use mediabay at the same time as their loop browser.
So for now, I'm using Resonic Pro, along with Studio Ones browser, or Cubase with Resonic Pro, though they won't sync in tempo obviously.
I'd love to find something that allowed me to browse and audition from multiple sources in sync at the same time. Any ideas?

Ableton's media/file browser is pretty efficient and very accessible right of the bat, its always present on the left hand side regardless of whether you viewing the mixer or the arrangement window and it can also preview the files and allow you click and preview different sections of the file. Its a big time saver and contributes to what makes ableton a great daw for workflow.

It's also great because you save individual tracks and samples by dragging them into a folder to use later. I only have Live Lite and trying it made me wish Logic had the same features. All I can do is hope...SM1 wrote: Sat Sep 17, 2022 5:08 pm Ableton's media/file browser is pretty efficient and very accessible right of the bat, its always present on the left hand side regardless of whether you viewing the mixer or the arrangement window and it can also preview the files and allow you click and preview different sections of the file. I'm aware of ableton, what I'm asking is if there's a daw that allows for multiple file browsing at one time that allows for sync/auditioning. To my knowledge there's nothing like this available.
In Cubase they offer a loop browser/media bay option, but they will not work at the same time, meaning as soon as you try to play both files in realtime, the other one cuts off.
I'd like to find an option, that allows the end user to browse using multiple file/folder browsers to audition multiple loops/ at one time, with an option for syncing to tempo.
thnx

you're aware that these people might actually be responding to the original conversation not your question, right?

ADSR Sample Manager comes also as plugin with sync to host feature. You can insert as many instances as you like. They're all tempo synced with their individual loops selected in your DAW of choice.

Tracktion Waveform can do this.trusampler wrote: Mon Sep 19, 2022 10:44 am I'd like to find an option, that allows the end user to browse using multiple file/folder browsers to audition multiple loops/ at one time, with an option for syncing to tempo.

Open multiple browsers by clicking on the (+) symbol. The wave loops must have the tempo embedded in the file info for tempo sync to work. Then when you find some you like working together, you can just drag the loops as a group into your timeline using shift+click/drag.

Cubase's Mediabay is good, but its slight learning curve threw me for a loop. You can place all the wave files you have in a folder to your heart's content, but if you don't scan them in Mediabay, they don't show up in the library. I had to read up about that.
If you can't dazzle 'em with brilliance, baffle 'em with bullshit.
