OK interesting synth, sounds good, would be useful to be able to set default folders for where patches go in the browser (eg favourites?)
Seem to be only 30 odd automation params exposed to host and nothing does anything, or is learnable, is that something still being added?

The preset folder thing threw me a bit in the begining also. The best thing to do is add a folder to the programs folder.aMUSEd wrote:OK interesting synth, sounds good, would be useful to be able to set default folders for where patches go in the browser (eg favourites?)

Now when you create a new sound or want to copy an existing zound...
First name it at the top if it is new ( if wanting to copy , leave as is )
Click on the browser tab.
Now select you newly created folder
Click save.
It will go into your newly created folder as will everything else untill you change folders.
They go in alphabetical but by adding categories or notes you can arrange them that way as well by clicking on th top preset menu tabs.
Really kinda cool once you get used to it.

There isn't a programs folder on Mac - for now I've put them in \Library\Audio\Presets\Fathom - that makes sense on Mac (user stuff will go in \Users\name\Library\Audio\Presets\Fathom)
But being able to make those folders stickies or favourites is a must
What would also be useful are arrows and/or a dropdown to navigate presets - at the moment there constant jumping between synth and browser tabs.
And for the mod matrix not to behave so jumpily with the mousewheel

Not programs liks in windows programs
When you downloaded Fathom it came with a folder called Programs. That is where the presets are stored. it has been a while since I used a Mac. Was there an installer for Mac or did you just copy the componet then the fathom folder?

It's just copying so you could put it anywhere theoretically (and the manual doesn't have install instructions)

So inside the Fathom folder there is a Folder called Programs. Inside that folder is where you can add new folders ie. favs or basses, string etc.
There has been discussion of adding backward forward arrows to the main interface for preset btowsing. I believe it is high on the Devs list.

I'd like to add a request, too. The scrolling in the columns (audio components & Mod Matrix) is opposite than one is used to. Compare it to browsers, they scroll down when "Fathom" scrolls up and vice versa.

Yes I know - my question was more where to put it in the first place?Scrubbing Monkeys wrote:aMUSEd wrote:It's just copying so you could put it anywhere theoretically (and the manual doesn't have install instructions)

@aMUSEd
Edit : Never mind, didn't get what you were looking for in the first place.
And yes,

would be great.aMUSEd wrote:...having stickies/favourites would enable switching between several folder locations (eg factory/user, or a samples folder)

As I said I did this but having stickies/favourites would enable switching between several folder locations (eg factory/user, or a samples folder)

Buckster, I sent you a PM with some instructions.
akeia, Thanks!
aMUSEd, The host automation should work, as I've tested it in about five different hosts. See the Quick Start Guide on Host Automation and see if it works. If not, remind me what your host is, and I’ll debug it. I’m fast about getting fixes out if something is broken.
Scrubbing Monkeys, Wow, a sound designer that also provides some tech support, nice.
aMUSEd, Yes, SM is correct, I will be adding some preset arrows on the front page for the next release.
Also, heads up, I am adding a new section to the Quick Start Guide for full installation instructions, including Mac. It will explain why it is generally a bad idea to put data folders in the same plugin folder since it slows the host scan speed. And there will be instructions for separating the two things when you start.
Elassi, Good observation, I will check the relative direction of both scrolls for the next release. Now that you mention it, I think I might have it opposite. In most applications, moving the mouse wheel toward you will scroll things up, not down. I will change that for the next release. Someone will certainly complain, “now its wrong” but its better to be consistant with the rest of the planet.
Nordickvr, Ability to switch between several folder shortcuts. Good idea. I will see if there is an easy way to do that.

Also, this is off topic, but I’m asking it here among friends to get advice.
Yesterday I was just relaxing and was reading through the LennarDigital Sylenth thread here, and noticed amazingly that Lennard himself is a member here and still responds personally to many of the posts.
The Sylenth Filter is the Holy Grail of DSP analog emulating filter algorithms, and I’m dying to ask him how he did it, but it could be perceived as rude to directly request such a closely guarded company secret. Can any one offer me some advice on how to pose the question, such as “give me some pointers on what academic papers might deal specfically with Analog filter emulation.”
I’ve spent hours listening to that thing, and there is something going on that is much more sophisticated and fundamental than just adding an arctan non-linear function to the output. It sounds like a zero delay algorithm of some kind, but I can’t be sure.
Fathom already has the industry standard ladder and diode filter emulators, but to be honest, they still can’t even touch the Sylenth filter.

The funny thing is, the more I think about it, the more insights show up.FathomSynth wrote:In most applications, moving the mouse wheel toward you will scroll things up, not down. If you see the 'column' as a sheet of paper on your desk, the natural observation is: If you push it upwards with your hand (=scrolling the mousewheel away from you), it disappears towards the top of the field of vision. If you drag it downwards, it moves to the bottom and eventually disappears there.
So, you were right in first place and the 'browser people' are actually wrong... but the planet did not recognize it.
Ha, cool, who thought a new synth would gain such kind of consideration.

You'll need a translator: https://www.amazona.de/interview-lennar-digital/FathomSynth wrote:I’ve spent hours listening to that thing, and there is something going on that is much more sophisticated and fundamental than just adding an arctan non-linear function to the output. There are some hints in this interview.
