It's not down, but takes ages to respond. Might get hammered by panicking users who try to dl all their stuff. Of course must be a conspiracy...

Down it is. Closed means closed.
I found that Command Center kept all the following installers in dl folder. Not much use without activation server though.

Works fine here. I suppose they are just making some changes to release all their products as freeware.Zombie Queen wrote:Down it is. Closed means closed.

Are they really going to do that? I highly doubt it. I mean, getting Zeta+ and Rapture for free would have no objections here but Developers that have closed up shop very rarely release the product for free. Especially a big name dev like Cakewalk.robotmonkey wrote:Works fine here. I suppose they are just making some changes to release all their products as freeware.Zombie Queen wrote:Down it is. On a slightly more on-topic matter -- I'm thinking about simply deleting Sonar and all of its associated plugs and content from my HD. Except three or four VSTs that work in any host.
Anybody got any knowledge about how to bundle that all up? Would downloading everything from the CCC take care of that? Intention is to be kinda like the archive that many of us created with Alchemy. Assuming that Cake keeps their promise about maintaining the Authorization servers running, of course...

Hmmm... Actually I'm thinking of installing the light version of Sonar that comes for free with the next edition of CM. Sounds crazy, I know, but sometimes my DAW won't recognize a certain VST plug and then it's nice to have a free second DAW. Plus I presume the light version sounds as good as the full version? For zero bucks, it's actually really tempting (and no, I'm not being whimsical...). I just wish the light version would come with VocalSync!

Supposedly a former Cakewalk employee giving some "behind the scenes" info on what happened.

Just reading it now. If true, and I personally believe with the amount of detail to his story's that it is, then it is a Fascinating idea about what was going on behind the scenes. Good findjsp1979 wrote:Supposedly a former Cakewalk employee giving some "behind the scenes" info on what happened.

I was in a "dot-com" era shop in the late nineties/early aughts that went through the boom/bust cycle. The "behind the scenes" poster echoes a lot of what I experienced.jsp1979 wrote:Supposedly a former Cakewalk employee giving some "behind the scenes" info on what happened.

It's only in retrospect that the tipping point into the bust phase can be seen clearly. In my case, it was less than a handful of little "tells" that, individually, seemed no more than just a decision maker's bad day at the office. The cumulative effect, though, was staggering. That seems to be the case for the Sonar team.
The Reddit OP is right - the Boston area has been, and will be a hot place for developers for many years to come. The Sonar devs will land well, with much experience gained and wisdom earned. I'm glad for that.
We shall see orchestral machines with a thousand new sounds, with thousands of new euphonies, as opposed to the present day's simple sounds of strings, brass, and woodwinds. -- George Antheil, circa 1925 ---

Thanks for the Reddit link. Very interesting, and yes, I also agree that it's too detailed and insightful not to be authentic.
The Opcode Vision reference was funny. I wonder how many heads it will fly over...
