I agree that musicality is a factor. Spectral effects often remove the starting transients, and the important noise components that lead up to the fundamental, which causes the timbre of many instruments to sound the same (if an effect is used 100% wet).

Only seeing 32-bit versions for Windows from Artifical Audio, and the Michael Norris stuff is Mac-only. I made an observation, couched in humour, in the hope of an interesting conversation. FWIW, I do actually own pretty much most of the (PC) plugins and standalone tools that have been mentioned in these various lists, and some that havent; the list of 'dead' products was compiled as a subset of that; Im rebuilding my DAW after a failure and its disconcerting that spectral plugins dominate the 'cant easily reauthorise' category.
But at least its reminded me of one plugin I'd forgotten, and the other, more conversational contributions (particularly CinninBao's and crons) have been particularly interesting.

Yeah, i noticed the trend when i switched computers. I had/have a few of those discontinued items. I think the reasons stated are accurate. It's a good observation by cron of how Unfiltered advertised a FSU angle and then PA marketed it as a sweetener (kinda silly concept.) This is indeed the issue; spectral doesn't appeal to the masses 
If things like spectral sold well we would probably also see a lot more innovative synths and effects (spectral or otherwise.) Unfortunately there doesn't seem to be a large market for weirdness in plug ins.

I guess that courting the mainstream is a necessary reality of plug-in development these days, and the niche FSU crowd just isn't big enough to keep the money rolling in thus sustaining continued development.
