Hi
I'm thinking of buying the launch key from Novation and u get free version of Ableton live lite.
I can't find a web search that details wots in the lite version or wot its capable of..., or compare it to the non lite version.
Plus is it a stand alone product or does it fit in your DAW ?
Any help please ?
Thanx in advance

To be fair, Live Lite isn't the same as Live Intro... it's even more feature limited and typically bundled with OEM stuff.ZenPunkHippy wrote:Like this link, posted on the first page of above thread?

All DAWs sound alike... except when they don't.

I got that with my M-Audio card. What will happen (prolly) is you'll get an old version on disc and have to make an account at Ableton and d/l an update. I think Lite stopped with v8, though.
Intro is not Lite.

I can tell you Intro is preferred to lite. Both have version 9 support and I think will also have version 10 support) Lite is useful if you happy doing the following:
1. simpler synth
2. editing audio clips and samples
3. create some midi tracks
Intro adds the Looper - if thats really important than you need Intro or higher. Aldo it allows 16 tracks - but I think as a scratch pad tool Lite is sufficient. I like the looper thing but you can also kind of do this using the session view in lite.
Also only Standard or above has the plugin external instrument - that makes things slightly easier if you have external hardware to use as a midi device - but there are simple workarounds within Lite or Intro. You need the bigger packages if you want to use Max for Live plugins later on. Because I have another Daw, I dont need much out of Ableton at this time.
However, I will also say getting you ideas out and into Ableton is really quick and easy. The learning curve isnt so bad. Another cool feature is you can quickly assign fx parameters, macros or hotkeys to midi controllers or your pc keyboard. Very cool. It is sort of swaying me away from my other Daw at the moment because of its simple interface. Somehow the ableton people figured out the most direct route to getting things done. ONe downside is you have to bridge 32 bit plugins (if those are your favorites be prepared to spend an extra $20 to get Jbridge)
I hope that helps!

Getting ideas into and out of Live is easy. Not exporting entire projects though.

I have Intro, it is limited to 8 session rows, sorry if I'm using wrong lingo. It is enough for me, ie. Intro, a couple verses, a couple chorus a bridge, ending. It is a great scratch pad. You can get it for $50 if you have a Korg controller, there is a coupon on the Korg bundle web page. Lite I think also has a hard 4 audio/4 midi track limit.
If you want to buy intro, buy a Korg mini controller first, like nanokey for $50. You'll get an auxiliary/mobile keyboard plus Live Intro for $100 total.

If you have requests for Korg VST features or changes, they are listening at https://support.korguser.net/hc/en-us/requests/new

The limit is 8 tracks in total. You can have 8 audio tracks. Or 6 audio tracks + 2 midi tracks, etc.braj wrote:I have Intro, it is limited to 8 session rows, sorry if I'm using wrong lingo. Live Lite 8 had a limitation of 8 plugins. This limitation was removed on Lite 9.
Hint: You can run more than one Live at the same time. Install something like Jack Server to send Master output from first Live into a track of the second Live, and sync them so they play together. That will make 15 tracks
Hard to do but totally possible.
Lite 9 doesn't have The Glue compressor nor the convert audio to midi feature.

Here is one way to overcome 8 track limitation, you can stack up instruments in instrument rack if tracks have same MIDI notes and automate the volume to turn the instrument on/off
As far as audio tracks are concerned, you can stack them up in drum racks.
