I would imagine that Apple provides a way to flag whether a view is retina or not so the host has full control of the resolution of its subwindows assuming the user has not prevented that with the application level switch.

Post

Yes, I've been looking for that in the documentation with no success.

However, it looks like Live 9.1 has Retina support, and the OS X 10.9 devtools allow you to fake Retina support on a conventional monitor (sort of), I'll be able to see what it does.. I think.

Yes Live has 'improved' Retina support (and a scaleable UI) now. I've not updated yet.

The Glue and The Drop are both fully scalable and HiDPI aware on both Mac and Win.

On windows the only DAWs I know of that support HiDPI are Adobe Audition, Cantabile, and FL Studio 12 beta (which I've not tested with). Are there any others people know about?

List updated with recent contributions.

Many thanks to all. Keep them coming!

Current versions of the following VST instruments for Windows do support scaling GUI up to 200%:
  • Arturia V-Collection 5+ (Arturia-logo button -> Resize Window)
  • LinPlug Spectral (top-left icon button -> M/L/XL)
  • Reveal Sound Spire (Menu -> GUI Options)

Post

Useful list, I hope it's still being updated. A few others:

TAL Sampler - Scalable high resolution user interface.

TAL BassLine 101 - High resolution screen support. Scallable UI.

TAL U-NO-LX - Scalable Vector User Interface.

Post

Uhm Iris 2 is not scalable. It has resizeable main spectrograph window, but all the other icons and controls remain tiny.

Serum and Harmor are now fully scalable and nice overall.
