I tested this quite a few times and did not experience your issue at all. Everything works and looks fine on my end. Could be an issue with your graphics card is my guest.midi_transmission wrote:hmm I just activated my 9.5 trial... hue annoyance spotted.
- chose the 'arrow' tool (press 1) - it does NOT happen with every tool
- mousedown with left mouse in the project window were you make your arrangement on a free spot
- release it after a second or a bit longer and observe the screen while doing this
result: the color from the whole cubase window gets a tiny tiny bit darker while you hold the button down? This is a really annoying subtle flicker.
Can you test if it's the same for you?
Cubase 9.5 launch today!

OK doesn't happen in Cubase9 trial, but in 9.5. :/
Do anyone know if I can use Cubase 9 when I purchase a new Cubase 9.5? I have to wait until this is fixed, super annoying, but I want to use Cubase. I would be fine so long with Cubase 9.

One other question. Why are the transients shaded in the waveform? Any idea? The main wave is has a deep blue color, but some parts are shaded.

Ah this tiny flicker happens only when I have NO floating window. As soon as I have e.q. the virtual keyboard open it doesn't happen. Thats at least a workaround....

In preferences there is a setting for how to color the wave drawing. You're using a default that uses the track color. There is a border setting that is probably causing the shading, or it is just density based on the color.
If you have to ask, you can't afford the answer

Thanks, but this picure is from the editor. The settings you mean are just for the project window and doesn'T affect the wave in the editor. (double click on audio to see it in the editor)

ah, so it is. sorry about that, I have my colors set a lot different (hate dark background in editors). Anyhow, the editor wave is not adjustable directly. Don't take it as gospel, but I believe the outline is the amplitude marker at each sample position.midi_transmission wrote:SJ_Digriz wrote:In preferences there is a setting for how to color the wave drawing. EDIT: It looks like the black outline is what you are referring to as shading.

I’ve just returned to Cubase 9.5 after not using it since Cubase 1, on the Atari ST/FM...
I have a lot to learn but I love learning and am pretty blown away by how much more efficient on my mac it is than Ableton Live.
Does anyone have any links to good 9.5 tutorials please?

The Cubase YouTube channel has a ton of tips:simmo75 wrote:I’ve just returned to Cubase 9.5 after not using it since Cubase 1, on the Atari ST/FM...

Some other channels also make video guides for Cubase. These should start showing up in your Recommended Videos list after watching a few videos from the channel above.
If you need a proper online course, I see SWA and Groove3 being recommended a lot.
The Cubase manual is pretty well written though. It should help you figure things out without much trouble.

I jumped on the excellent Crossgrade price I was able to get from Studio One Professional (was previously a Sonar Professional guy and always keep a Reaper license around). I'm still very much learning it, and my first few days with Cubase have been a mixed bag, which was expected honestly.
Likes: the MIDI features I've been missing from Studio One are all here. Features like the Drum Editor, Score Editor, an Event List, MIDI Transformer/Logical Editor, Articulation Editor, etc. There's cool stuff I wasn't expecting too, such as the Control Room, and the ability to meter to on the right panel, the ability to fly in tracks from other sessions, etc. Then there are old things I missed from Sonar like proper track templates, which were missing in Studio One, but exist in Cubase! Also, the tempo view in Cubase is exactly what Studio One needs!
On the other hand, there are things I really don't like about Cubase so far. Dealing with Control Surfaces that aren't pre-mapped is a nightmare! So is setting up an External Instrument. That shouldn't be that hard to setup an instrument and map the controls. And you can't just take your Generic Remote and use it to Remote Control your VST plugins? That's completely absurd! It seems like it would take a few lines of code to say, "add Generic Remote as an option to the Remote Control Editor." The VST2 side-chaining restriction are just crazy too (at least I knew about that in advance)! Every other DAW on the market has shown that side-chaining works fine in VST2 so it's not like Stienberg is fooling anyone about the limitations of VST2 by making it such a pain to sidechain compared to VST3.
And the workflow is clunky. No drag and drop effects from the Browser that I've seen so far. Instead of just showing me a list of instruments I can drag and drop, I have to click the Add Instrument, navigate through subfolders to find the instrument, then tell Cubase what type of track I want to add. It can take around 7 clicks just to add a simple instrument. There's much Cubase could still learn from Studio One's browser (which isn't perfect either TBH). Also, seems like an obvious missed opportunity to not show inserts in the Lower Region at the same time as the Faders like you can in Studio One. So far, and it's only been a few days, but from a workflow perspective, I feel like I'm back in Sonar. Like my Tesla Model X just got downgraded to a Toyota Yaris (note: IRL I drive a Yaris).
If Cubase could clean up the workflow further and streamline things, it'd be close to perfect for me. On the other hand, if Studio One ever gets to really improving it's MIDI functionality, it'd have a huge edge due to the streamlined workflow. And just to be clear: I'm glad I have both right now. No one DAW is perfect for me. At least, not yet. Cubase fills some gaps in Studio One, and Studio One is just much more of a pleasure to operate in. Cubase will take some getting used to, but I really appreciate how powerful and mature it is.
