We (see above) are making fun of each other, performing the well known Wag-Style...

You, and the real drummer, will end a sound by other means than the note length (still laughing about it).

Choking (DAW language) or closing (open HH) or simply putting your hand on it... or... there are several ways to end a sound.

You could try this if your worried and upgrade from that, don't know if this isn't all available

You can rely on me. I repeat: You can rely on me.

Never had a Magix product on my machine. The $149-sensation worked for me. Flawless. :tu:

In real drum playing, no beat of a Hi-Hat (or Bass Drum, Snare, Tom, Cymbal) has exactly the same length as the previous or the next note. Each note length is individual. To achieve a similar level of naturalness, I have to edit each Hi-Hat note manually - which is a hell of lot of work, especially with longer tracks.
What drum software are you using? Many drum instruments disregard MIDI note off and require an explicit choke.
Mostly Slate SSD4 - where changing the length of notes makes an audible difference, even without chokes. Of course I'm not talking about a change from, say, 50 to 48. But a change from 60 to 27 is audible to me.

Interesting. Unexpected, but interesting, and good to know. Thanks!

The highest form of knowledge is empathy, for it requires us to suspend our egos and live in another's world. It requires profound, purpose‐larger‐than‐the‐self kind of understanding.

You've been the first person I thought of (while you're actually being the only one I know using Samp).

Heck, also the "Formula Controller" implemented in the early Fruity Loops was something that rather belongs to a math lesson for school kids than being established in a DAW for serious adults. :x

Gimme a brief (management) summary. I've no time to lose - being busy on creating presets for the upper class. :D

You are wrong. You can let the "shot" decay till the very end, or you can shorten it. Depending on the drum library, this does make a big difference - even without explicit chokes.
Ok. We're totally of topic here, but besides the toms ring & open hats where decay apply, you'll have far better results by playing on the attack of the sound than on its lengh. But you can only do that in some drum vsts (battery for ex). I don't mean adsr, i mean cutting randomly a small part of the attack. Small pitch & distortion randomisation works wonders, also.
Whatever.

@kraznet : i'm still on x1 and i'm wondering if most of the bugs have been ironed out of x3 (ara & vst 3) ? Had a quick look at the sam forum and seems a pal still had some problems with the ara thing... :)

Kraznet, thank you. I thought I got a great deal on Sound Forge half a year ago (and I did) but this is a total no-brainer for Spectralayers. Bundle price effectively comes out to $89.43 for Samplitude Suite and $59.57 for Spectralayers Pro 4 (ignoring the skins and other crap). Lowest I could get Spectralayers down to was $199, so yeah, it's already a $50 discount to me.

As for Magix's viability in light of Cakewalk/Gibson I'm not worried. It fits in with their strategy of being an all-encompassing multimedia software company where their marketshare is of prime importance, and they're doing cross-promotions across their entire line, which is great for everyone and especially people who are cross-disciplined. They're privately held by a holding firm so you can bet they've got a long-term vision without being held hostage by investors. As a long time Sound Forge user I think they'll be a better steward than Sony.

Cue loads of impulse buys.. Another DAW will be gathering dust on a lot of hard drives in a few months and the buyers will be $149 down lol
