What's the deal with these. I have had a couple recently. Low to zero post count sending a PM, saying "keen to buy give me your email". Any idea what these are about? I have ignored some in the past but I have relented and given my email to a couple of others and never heard back. What's the deal?

Have you PMed any of them back? The ones I’ve entertained seem to have been shopping for the lowest price, found some other offer, and didn’t/forgot to get back to me. Rude in my opinion, but not a scam.

It might be a sanity check for the buyer. If you aren't willing to send them an email, they may not trust you. Granted in this day and age is trivial to get a fresh email so I doubt that it's a very reliable indicator, but that doesn't stop people from having their own biases about what makes for a safe transaction.

Back in the golden days where you could reasonably safely trade with pure strangers on usenet, I would always ask for a work and home phone number so I could call at both places. A few people didn't want to do that, but I always managed to find a buyer at my price who did. I also had a few sketchy numbers and a few sketchy email responses which would be enough for me to just move on to the next buyer, or even seller.

Yep. As I said some I have some I haven't. Depending on the post count and how crazy keen they seem.

I meant after you “never heard back from them,” like: “Are you still interested in buying my plug?” I’ve gotten a response/apology in about 99% of those cases. They tell you why they didn’t respond earlier.

I suppose the thing is I've sold a heap of gear on kvr and I can't recall ever having to chase someone up after they have contacted me to buy something. Only these zero post contacts asking for my email. When they get it, it's seems it's see you later.

More than anything I'm wondering what someone could gain from having my email. I know there was/is a paypal scam Gumtree users were falling victim to and I thought this might be similar but like I said I never hear back.

This just happended to me. Two 0 post buyers in one night. First one disappeared right after I sent my email and another one sent PM shortly after that.

I haven't had one for a while but it just seems odd to me. I've started having a conversation before handing out my email. Seems to work out whether they are a dickhead or not.

Ok, my bad. They both were legit buyers. It was just a coinicidence that they both were "0 post" buyers. But I guess it's better to be safe than sorry. :?
