This might help:
From the Oct 82 issue of Keyboard mag Toto interview.
"Keyboard Editor:
What else is going on in "Africa"?
David Paich:
The kalimba is all done with the GS1. It's six tracks of GS1 playing different rhythms. There's a high organ sound that's GS1, and I wrote the song on CS-80, so that plays the main part of the entire tune.

I have read a lot of your comments and I have no problem interpreting them the way you meant it. So the ones that have problems with your posts either do not possess the communication skills to understand it, or more so I think, pretend not to understand it so they can start something. It's getting to the point where I have to read every single word I type here and see if there is any way it can possibly be misinterpreted. I'm sick of it.

I think it would actually be a kind of compliment to the developer of a free synth if someone made a commercial sound set for it, it would lift the synth into the realm of commercial synths. Of course it shouldn't cost much, but 10 or 15 euros is ok, if the patches are good.
If someone made a new synth from a free synth and charged for it, that would be kind of wrong, though.

Just listened to it on YT, had not heard it in decades.
The sound is pretty basic, more like a simple, mild saw pad, not even brass with a bumpy attack.

What a coincidence about the reverb though, i used Ambience for my Africa track i posted on page1 too.
Normally i use epicVerb for everything, but i don't know why it just didn't get well with this song at all.

While testing the new free Ambient reverb I compared to other free reverbs and found that good old Ambience still rocks.Mutant wrote: What a coincidence about the reverb though, i used Ambience for my Africa track i posted on page1 too.

While I doubt the business wisdom of providing paid patches for a synth which has 25,000 free patches available for it already, It is not really a moral problem. the work of creating a synth, and the work of programming that synth are two entirely different things, and IF there is commercial value to be placed on the sound designer's art at all, there should be no distinction on whether the synth is payware or freeware. (my own opinion, incidentally, is very skeptical of the value of preset packs either free or paid, most of us don't lack for presets, and you can spend more time looking for the right patch, than you would have if you had just programmed it yourself. fm and other complicated synths to program make it more appealing, but a fairly basic 2 osc VA?)
Someone who is willing to provide their work for free is a wonderful thing, but the implicit demand that someone provide their work for free is not.

Yeah, I think you can try and sell your belly button lint, if there is a market for it, who cares? I don't see a moral issue with selling Synth1 patches.
