Oh hell yes it does. I actually have more insight into what I meant by "why I love Reaper" , and it was also in what I said that you mocked. You quoted me without the mention of the free update bit and that I already had owned the first Ara compatible host with Studio One, and you made it seem like I was celebrating Reaper finally got a feature everyone else has (which most still don't, including yours). But go ahead and think whatever you like, you're still in bad form, man. I know you don't mean to be a jerk, but that's how you came off to me. Sorry if I've been a jerk back, again, I need sleep. I can't help being a bit manic though, I have brain damage :ud: . I'll try and let this go now and get to bed. Peace.

Sorry, I wasnt trying to pretend I knew what you meant, I was leveraging it solely for the joke. Mea culpa.
Peace.
Yeah, fair enough. :tu: Cheers.

I'm not sure if that has any basis in reality, if any of the major players have cut their prices dramatically over the last 9 years because Reaper is $60/$225. I also don't think Steinberg or Apple or some other companies care about it as much as some people regularly suggest.

There's room for everyone and $4-5-600 daws will always sell... and of course, people who spend thousands of dollars building professional studios (home or commercial) are not stressing over a few hundred dollars for a daw, likely the cheapest thing in their budget. For anyone making money with these products, they're all subsidized by billings anyway... so you work one session a year "for free" as it were, to pay for a $2-300 software update... and deduct part of that on your taxes. Nobody working and making money in music really cares about that.

But yeah, if you're spending $4-500 a year to put music on You Tube... expensive hobby? Use something cheaper and put that money in your retirement fund.

Samplitude has come down drastically in price in the last 10 years

Thanks. I'd be curious to know why that is (other than perhaps it just wasn't selling that well at the much higher price in general, who knows?). That's the rub, that most of these companies are private and nobody but them will ever how much they sell or not or what may or may not be causing them financial pressure, if any.

I think we're into year 15+ of people predicting Avid going bankrupt, and their financials are public. Good luck guessing at the financials or motives of a private company.

Remember, most companies don't exist to democratize music, they exist to make money. There is no rule or law that says everyone should be able to afford their products. They price at whatever level they can sell products at. If people were to simply stop buying Cubase at $500, I suppose they might lower the price.

Actually, just dipping into it is what has always left me frustrated. I'm currently finding the same with Renoise and Hollyhock. I think the only way to learn enough to make a judgment as to whether to continue to pursue, is with a period of full immersion. I have already planned a 1-2 month session, so perhaps I'll do the same with Reaper. Although, having thought about it a little more these past days, were to end up back to a Windows machine, I'd probably just go full-Ableton

The rest of the jamming stuff e.g ninjam, that I didn't quote, does sound interesting Perhaps, something to try out when I get through my current list of to-do's

When I got in 10 years ago it was 1,100 dollars but I got a crossgrade deal, I'm on X2 suite right now (for the next 10 minutes :hihi: ) and deals on upgrades by waiting and once an xmas gift tbh of an upgrade so when I but X3 I will just now surpass a total investment of 1,100 dollars and I started with Samp 9 pro. It has indeed now dropped in price but I have actually been very fortunate and once again by waiting instead of upgrading right away catch a break :D

Hey, 90's throwback SAWStudio is $2500, does anything think that exerts an upward pressure on DAW prices?

Oh wait, hang on, barely anyone uses it. Argument rendered null and void.

Is that thing still around? Really? "I write everything in assembler...cause assembler"

The site is still up and pretty sure you can still buy it.

It gets mocked but given that it's written in assembler, not a clock cycle or byte is wasted, and it can run smoothly without hiccups or crashes on a 90's PC.

However its interface is pretty much frozen in the age Windows 3.1, and that's not even retro in a cool way to most people, just hideously ugly. I mean it has those awful 90's background textures, and spherical color gradients to fill out empty panels. The look of it would absolutely put me off making music.

Not likely to be true really. I mean it will still run on a 90's PC, but that's because it's software from yesterday.

It wasn't that stable back in the day, I remember. It was just more stable than other stuff. Today I imagine Reaper will run rings around it in almost every way, including any reasonable measure of efficiency.

It was too much noise about Reaper in early development stages, when it obviously was behind competitors. But Reaper fans didn't want to recognize that and constantly pointed to other great features. Now it's quite mature DAW and differences are more in "philosophy" than functionality. For me there is one very appealing, but not music related aspect, in which Reaper is the best of all major DAWs. It has the smallest installer, no bloat, no downloader tools, no license/account managing programs, no gigabytes of useless additional content, no installation/registration hassles, etc. Then great copy protection and price :) Before Reaper it was hard to imagine that full featured desktop DAW can fit into such small package.

About to switch to Reaper...

How are the built-in effects compared to third-party effects such as Toneboosters?
I used to use Mixcraft, but its native effects were of mediocre quality in my view.

I was also surprised about the small download size :)
Glad they don't bundle crap with their DAW :tu:
