I'm speechless.

Definitely not just the videos. C'mon. This. :)

Somehow I don't feel inspired by these synths at all, so I think I'll have to skip this round :/ Shame that I didn't have time to participate last month, since Thorn was immediately inspiring.

Guenon wrote:Thank you very much, everyone :) ... Ok, I'll remember to post it also on Soundcloud and enter it in time, heh.
Please do. Inspiring work.

I'm intrigued tho (and often a little slow on the uptake  ) is this patch switching or extensive automation ....or both?

Post

Wooooot! ....not inspired by these synths?!?!? Man...I was afraid something like this could happen, because they are some harder nuts to crack, but once you begin to get into them, pffff.... they sound fantastic and it's actually a beautiful and curious puzzle to explore them, too!

Ah, yes, and if you scroll down to my old comments back then, you will know how I felt about it, too! :hyper:

I guess it’s partly that the sounds are not inspiring me to create even though I enjoy listening to what others have come up with. And partly that I have too many projects at the moment, so the least inspiring has to give. Maybe I’ll still try to throw something together, we’ll see. :)

Folks,

I have updated the FB-3X00 series to versions 1.1.4, 1.0.1, and 1.0.3 respectively:
  • fixed parameter reset on Start/Stop (AU version)
  • fixed Renoise crashes
  • reorganized Options menu
Get it here: https://www.fullbucket.de/music/vst.html

Thanks for hunting the bugs and your feedback! :tu:

Cheers, Björn

You're awesome, THANKS! Seems to all be still working! :D

Thank you!

@fullbucket, could you go ahead and make the automation no longer work? Guenon’s track would benefit greatly from that... :hihi:

Just joined and plan on entering #106. Thanks to all for the inspiration!

LOL :)

I'm grateful for the positive response and plentiful "wtf" reactions :), hahhh, thank you all. As I've said before, I know there are fellow wizards here who appreciate this sort of stuff. Know that it's your skill that has in turn inspired me.

There's no patch switching at all. What I'm doing is, I'm using one single patch in that one FB-3100 instance for the whole duration, feeding it MIDI notes and controlling 10 different parameters with automation curves. There's no custom trickery in the way the automation works, no Ableton Live specific functionality or recalled instrument states. Just basic note events and automation curves, edited 100% by hand, not using generators or modulators of any kind for that parameter control. So the audible end result is achievable in any host. I think I'll describe the process more, with some practical examples here, when I post this on Soundcloud.

The key to sounding like that, and using only one instance in doing so, is asking what you need to do in order to get a particular sound color out of the synth, and what you can do at the same time or seemingly at the same time so that it gives an impression of functionally separate things happening simultaneously :). Aesthetically this goes both ways, the end result sounds like this because it's done in that manner (a lot of sequential stuff happening in fast succession instead of multiple things layered with one another), and it can be a goal in itself, as an overall grungy sound, not necessarily a compromise.

Thanks for making these synths Björn, they rock, hadn't used any of them before.
