If You Could Only Master One Soft Synth - Which Would It Be?

Co-conspirator, creative director of a bunch of temperamental drug-addled artists who all want to do something other than the part that I assigned them, supplicant, puppet master, babysitter, captain of the expedition, or sarge that they want to frag. It varies with the project.martinjuenke wrote:There are Masters and Servants!

In all seriousness, even Synth1 continues to surprise me with just how much it can do. So if I've yet to master that, what chance do i stand fully understanding Zebra or Bazille?

To know how everything works in a synth and being a good sound designer are two totally different things.fluffy_little_something wrote:I think Mastering implies that the synth is rather complex and hard to understand. It would be odd to say I master Charlatan
Complexity of the synth engine has nothing to do with a patch sounding great or not. Sometimes a single Sawtooth sent through a lowpass filter is enough to do a great patch...
U-He just released a release candidate for Repro-5 with 900 factory presets included. The plugin is based on a SCI Prophet 5 Rev3 which is not a very complex synth by todays standards but is an aazing and inspiring INSTRUMENT that is just fun to play and program patches with. Who cares if a patch you do is somehow close to one some else alraedy did if that patch is perfect you our own taste. Sometimes also small differences really matter.
In the past someone at KVR told that all Synth Brass sounds do sound more or less similar. When i created my own collection of such sounds for The Legend i foudn that this is not really the case and i am far from having done all taht are possible. That was with The Legend where the synth engine is far from being super complex. With Repro-5 the amount of possible patches in that category might be even higher and a lot of such sounds are also included with then factory presets of Repro-5.
Sometimes people should care less about cónstantly asking for adding more features to certain synths but focus on what is already possible with the current feature set of that synth.
I found that certain synths with a huge feature set are so overwhelming and/or distracting in that respect that i hardly get anything done with some of them in terms of doing sound design...

I have six of the ten top synths: that means, winter can come, I have something to master...

I agree, Ingo, so I am not sure what you are rambling about...

Even if you master Synth1, that won't make you understand Zebra or Bazille without spending enough time!mutantdog wrote:In all seriousness, even Synth1 continues to surprise me with just how much it can do. So if I've yet to master that, what chance do i stand fully understanding Zebra or Bazille?
You might understand Zebra or Bazille immediately and feeling in control of you master Reaktor for example! But I believe in a direct way. If you want to understand/master Bazille, then learn Bazille
Using: Cubase Pro 15, Reason 13, Tascam US-4x4HR, MODX6, DM12D, LaunchKey 49, Yamaha guitar(Pacifica 612v) and bass (BB234) and some virtual instruments and synths.

Diva is the one for me since you can choose so many different components together.
I know subtractive synths well but with Diva you can add bits from different synths which makes it very flexible and gives it a different sound and behavior which is interesting

Off the top of my head, I'd say Reaktor.
When I look at some of the instruments that have been made in it like Monark, Form and others, it appears there's nothing it can't do with enough know how and patience.

Most Reaktor creations i've heard so far are absolutely top notch (at least the ones from Reaktor 6), so, yep.Straight2Vinyl wrote:Off the top of my head, I'd say Reaktor.
