looking for GM style sample solution

Hi all,
I"m looking for a sample pack that will allow me to instantly find an instrument and play it without worrying about loading time / sound quality / convoluted menus.
Something like the old General Midi library, but with updated sounds.
A few years back Native Instruments had such a product called Bandstand, which was basically an updated GM library, but it's been long discontinued.
I don't care about it being GM-compatible, I just need a quick way to write, with the sounds sitting well in the mix together out of the box.
I noticed that many portable games (for tablets / phones) use GM-esque sounds for their music, does anyone knows if there's a standard sample pack normally used for such games?
Thanks

How about the free Sforzando player ( https://www.plogue.com/products/sforzando/ ) using the Fluid GM/GS soundset ( http://ftp.de.debian.org/debian/pool/ma ... rig.tar.gz - Use something like 7zip or winrar to uncompress into the .sf2 files)

Thanks guys for replying, but I may need to refine my question here,
I'm not looking for an actual GM sound bank, but for an all-purpose, "swiss army knife" solution for quick sketching.
Think about the bundled sound banks that come with NI Komplete, compressed down to a single library.
I mean, that's what us old folks used to do in the past: load up a library which has everything and quickly switch between instruments when inspiration strikes and times is of the essence.

This is the kind of thing romplers like SampleTank are for...
An idiot on Set Theory:
"In some cases there is an object called red that contains everything that is red. In much the same way a pot is a plate."

@mcbpete:
I still have Cakewalks Dimension Pro installed for times like this though whether you'd want to pay serious money for it now... Maybe someone ditching their account in the market place. I always found it a straightforward sound source, especially if it comes with the Garrison Pocket Orchestra expansion.
