In the past I used the free Samplitude as wave-editor. Now I am discovering Samplitude again. It's a brilliant sample editor! Object processing, batch processing, etc. It's also great for mastering.

Why would a person want to use SoundForge if they have Samplitude?

@sluggo
I feel like this answer to your question is pretty subjective.
I just bought the pack because I used to use Sound Forge when it was owned by Sonic Foundry and have wanted Spectral Layers since it was released. SF offers multi window editing - you can select a region of a wave forum and drag it to the background and an new wave file is created of that selection. You can then edit it however you want and drag it back and either over write the existing region or mix it in. I've never seen this feature (quattro dsp does kind of but not as fluently).
There is also a bunch of processes (Wave Hammer, for example) that are awesome.
But, that said I honestly have only started using Samplitude (and am thrilled with it so far) so maybe there isn't much difference, i honestly can't speak to that. One thing though, I do find that working in dedicated wave editors to be much faster - but again, this could be personal preference.
That said, I just just discovered the Object Editor. Pretty slick with the automation feature.

You can do this same procedure with basically every DAW that I'm aware of, including samplitude.nathanj wrote: I just bought the pack because I used to use Sound Forge when it was owned by Sonic Foundry and have wanted Spectral Layers since it was released. Somehow I completely missed that Kraznet had posted instructions a few pages back for linking Samplitude to Sound Forge and SpectraLayers. Thanks for that, Kraznet!
It's like wave editing inception with SpectraLayers integrating with Sound Forge, and Sound Forge integrating with Samplitude.
Hopefully, I can figure out when to use what, but I'm open to any suggestions.

But this was his question:nathanj wrote:@Robert Randolph
Yes, in every DAW but not in every wave editor.
That means he already has a DAW to use in this context.sluggo wrote:Why would a person want to use SoundForge if they have Samplitude?
All of wavehammer's functionality is replicated in Samplitude as well.

That's fair enough.
I was just adding that as a wave editor, Sound Forge can be really efficient and unique for designing sound. Personally, I find dedicated wave editors to be much faster for editing large amounts of audio - this is why I would want to use SF over a DAW. However, I haven't used Samplitude's wave editing features so maybe I should have just kept my mouth shut to avoid the confusion.

So I picked this up with the sale price. When I run it and click on certain areas (e.g., switch the tabs in the object editor), the mouse jumps to the bottom of the screen... Really makes it hard to even use the program.
This is on Windows 10... Anyone else experiencing this?

I don't think so...Robert Randolph wrote:

I make single_cycle_wavs for synths... Sometimes grabbing a cycle from a long wav, resampling it to make it say 2048 or however many samples a particular synths wants to see the single_cycle_wav... changing bit depth...cutting and pasting sections from different wav_files and many other things that I don't think can be done in a DAW... if it can be done in a DAW it is clumsy.
A good wave editor is a blessing for this kind of work for me.

I guess this feature was introduced in build 157.. as I don't see it in 14.0.0.16, the build that came in the offer... yes, it invites me to upgrade but I am still organising my system for 64 bit so have not done the upgrade yet!Kraznet wrote:How does that daw interoperability work? And I wonder if it was smart to remove VST plugin support.
You can link Sound Forge and Spectral Layers Pro to Samplitude from File > Program Preferences > External tools. Once that is done you can right click on an audio object and choose to edit the audio in either of these programs.

You nailed it. I just checked the readme_en.pdf, and it lists:toonertik wrote:I guess this feature was introduced in build 157.. as I don't see it in 14.0.0.16, the build that came in the offer... yes, it invites me to upgrade but I am still organising my system for 64 bit so have not done the upgrade yet!

Figured this out... I had to disable "Smart Move" in my Logitech mouse preferences...danielh02 wrote:So I picked this up with the sale price. Yeah, I was hoping to learn of any unique features, capabilities, or workflow that these tools offer when integrated.VariKusBrainZ wrote:Most DAWs offer this integration with Wave editors
