So, I thought it was about time to see Logic Pro X in the DAW forum. What are your wishlist for new features or updates in Logic? Also what are your predictions? Do you think there will be a 10.4 or even a Logic Pro 11 in 2018?

Some of my wishes not any specific order:
Nested Track Stacks
Movable Mixer Channels
New interface or replacement for Ultrabeat
New interface or replacement for ESX24
Something in the vein of sampler track from cubase?
Some new unique creative effect units?
New interface for Sculpture
Patcher type feature with multiband splits etc a'la Studio One and others (or do I need to get bidule?)
Tons of new content for ESX24/replacement
Tons of new content for Alchemy
Tons of new content for Ultrabeat (given that there's at least an upgrade of the UI)
Multi lane pianoroll editing would be neat
Something that would be rad would be multi computer plugin hosting, integrated into macOS and Logic. Would definitely extend the life of aging Macbooks and so forth.

My predictions:
Probably 10.4 and a couple of updates to that. I have a feeling the "X" thing is here to stay for now, sounds cool, no need to go to 11. Maybe X2 ? Nah... As for predictions, hopefully UI upgrades to some of the more aging devices in Logic seems fairly reasonable. I do wonder how big the team is that are working on this, and where in apples priority list Logic falls. Anyone with any insights?

MIDI out from AU's and flexible inter-track MIDI routing like Reaper, MULAB, or any other DAW I would actually consider using. After 15 years I scraped Logic off my boot.

Definitely those three from your list:

Multi-lane Piano Roll
Movable Mixer Channel Strips
EXS25, (releases it from the 90s)

Logic has already a lot of free stuff, so my priority is always to let them improve the app, the functionality first. Plugin and sounds you can by mostly from other vendors, but you cannot buy a plugin that gives you multiple lanes in the Piano Roll or lets you move the Channel Strips in the Mixer window.

You already can nest Track Stacks (some of them)
You can nest Summing Stacks inside Folder Stacks

Nice, gonna check that out later tonight!

Wish they fix this automation annoyance, sure, there's workaround, but why not just fix the thing to work like in any other DAW. :ud:

- Realtime audio resampling of arbitrary tracks/master as easy as Live or Reaper (maybe there's an easier way than adding buss sends to new tracks?)
- Plug & play support pre-mapped for common MIDI controllers on an application (not project!) basis
- Ability to lock Drummer region content without having to bounce to audio/open in MIDI editor
- Copy/paste bus send settings to another channel
- Some sort of Reason Combinator or Ableton Rack-like wrapper for instruments/effects so when you open a preset it doesn't create a zillion new busses/auxes, and could easily re-use complicated chains
- Modulating FX on audio tracks without making Software Instrument Track and adding MIDI controllable FX and Modulators on that channel
- Better native algorithmic reverb, give all devices modern UI
- Better screenset behavior (save each one's state, dammit!) and window handling for open plugins - literally the worst of any program I've used on any OS, ever
- Automation plays back differently if I play back a song from start vs. if I start playback somewhere else - WTF?
- Persistent editor for Region based FX/automation like Samplitude Object Editor
- Non-linear clip triggering like Ableton Session view

Automation needs full rewrite, period.

Stable plug-in scanning.

I mean, seriously, why is Logic the only AU compatible DAW that keeps crashing when scanning large numbers of AUs?

This. It also rejects plug-ins that cause no problems in Live.

I second (third, fourth?) the request for freely movable mixer channels. In fact, I’d like to see a Track List (like in Digital Performer, Studio One, ProTools), where you can quickly control track/channel visibility. Separate track lists for Arrange and Mixer would be great.

Also: resizable (vertical stretch) mixer channels, as in Studio One, for better fader control and metering.

And: post-fader inserts on all mixer channels (again, see DP with its movable pre-/post indicator).

- Customisable mixers, including the ability to have stack multiple mixer sections onscreen e.g splitting the vertical into 3 sets of strips, to have control over sixty+ faders.

- I would also love the option of inline eq/compressor/gate on the strips.

- 'Simpler' for Logic :tu:

- The step-input keyboard also taking note info from midi keyboards.

- a one-button-mute for all effects on a strip.

- The option to lock transport and track readout to the left-most corner of the info box, like we used to be able to do in Logic 7. Then we can reclaim all that wasted space at the top of the screen :tu:

Since they swallowed Camel Audio - how about an updated CamelSpace/CamelPhat style multi-FX unit?
