Phrase generators locked to key and scale

Some phrase generators are locked to the key and scale like the Arp and Strings staccato and stays in key and scale when you transpose them, while others like Melody and generic generators doesn't stay in key and scale.

I haven't used the program for years so maybe it's a stupid question.

If I'm not mistaken try right clicking the phrase, click the gear and convert to absolute note for them to stay fix. When the phrase is turned to absolute, the option to turn it to relative will show up if you want to bring it back to follow chord change.

The only way to change to absolute notes is to tick the box that says replace master chords which I don't want to.
I want the meledy generator to follow the chord progression I made with a mixture of chord notes and scale notes, like the Arp and Strings staccato generators do?

Hm
I guess I have to do another explanation.
Starting with a new composition, then
choosing key and scale, then
Making A chord progression, then
Opening the phrase window/menu, then
dragging let's say a melody generator on to the first chord.
The notes in the the melody generator are going to be random but they are not conformed to the key, scale and chord that I have chosen.
Some phrase generators like strings staccato and arp are conformed to chords notes and only chord notes.
How do I get the generators to conform to the key, scale and chord that I specified.

Please help.

I'm not sure but maybe this could help. Did you change keys in the structure tree by right clicking on the various lines where you want the change to happen ?
They override tha master track.

I didn't change key in the structure.
The only time I change key is in the beginning by left clicking where it says c major (the default).

Thanks for the help anyway.

Hi,

it is a good observation. The Melody Generator is the only phrase generator which uses the master track chords during generation. So the result of a melody is dependent of the chords, that is it is not a good idea to transpose or move it. However there is an option to use chord notes in the Melody Generator, which makes it suitable to use with other chords, but the results may not be perfect or what you want. So it is intended to be used with the chords available at generation time.

All other phrase generators generate chord-relative notes, so you can freely move and transpose them.

Thanks,
Attila
