That's awesome news. You really should call Exponential Audio, Eventide, and 2C Audio, and tell them about it. I'm sure they will be greatly relieved that they don't have to spend any more tedious effort and work into that last 10% of sonic quality, when bedroom producers can achieve all that with applying some extra EQ. Nice find, homeboy.layzer wrote:you mean with a little more boost in the highs with an equalizer?chk071 wrote:Maybe not quite as "pristine" and brilliant as some 200 € reverbs

Korg Wavestation plugin is still great for ambient stuff.

This one trick that vendors of premium reverbs don't want you to know.chk071 wrote:That's awesome news. You really should call Exponential Audio, Eventide, and 2C Audio, and tell them about it. Well, even IF it was true... and you wouldn't be boosting the metallic tails of many free 'verbs at the same time, or you didn't have to do routing to just boost the reverb anyway... the argument is totally beside the point, because it is about comfort. Otherwise, we could just all use dat recorders, and wouldn't have to use DAW's with their gazillion of comfort functions anyway. Otherwise, no artist would have to buy a Moog, and enjoy the sound of it, if it was all about work, and work, and work, to get the sound you want, and even then you may fail to do so. For example, i really wouldn't know how you'd be able to get some nice filter sweeps, or fx sounds you can do with ZDF analog modelled filters, and audio rate modulation, with something like Synth1 (after all, it DOESN'T do a realistic analog filter emulation, and it DOESN'T do audio rate modulation, no matter how hard you try). The whole argument is just totally wrong, and it doesn't get more right with the thousandth almost fundamentalistic repetition. If you think that is the right way for you, hey, cooool. No need to state it as the ultimate truth though. In fact, it is far from it.

Thank you. Because I'm getting sick and tired of it as well. Let's all just download Charlatan and throw a stock reverb on it with some EQ and whip up some Tangerine Dream or Kraftwerk.chk071 wrote:

Rather the guy who thinks he's Godzilla, while in fact he's the Mickey Mouse.
You're right though, no need to further comment on it. Unfortunately, the bait is always so compelling.

I was just scrolling down to post something about Dune 2 and saw this.Neon Breath wrote:Can't believe Dune 2 hasn't been mentioned yet. This thing is capable of some very smooth, creamy and deep relaxing pads and soundscapes.
Those ambient banks that were released as freebies a few years back!

I find Lounge Lizard EP-4 good as well for some dreamy rhodes. Needs some tweeking, though

Yeah, it doesn't have that 'quality'. Which not everyone is going to agree is better with Spectrasonics. I respect the sound design but I don't love it. The sound quality, in particular.wagtunes wrote:Absynth is fine too and a lot less money but it doesn't have the sound quality of Omnisphere.

Yet I notice that each person is mentioned along with a synth they would appear to prefer.aMUSEd wrote:It's not about the synth, it's about the person programming the sounds. 2 of my favourite sound designers for that sort of softer relaxing ambient are Yuroun (which has mainly done banks for Alchemy) and Julian Ray (whose Kobold bank for PolyKobol is full of beautiful warm ambient sounds).

Phonec. Herc abakos, transistorhead, pastoral tones, dexed. All but two are free. Dune 2 and most of the commercial offerings are too pretty and HiFi for me .

Yes, those are examples of some of their best work, but Julian in particular has made sounds for many plugins but they often tend to have his characteristic predilection for and skill in creating beautiful pads and ambient sounds:jancivil wrote:Yet I notice that each person is mentioned along with a synth they would appear to prefer.aMUSEd wrote:It's not about the synth, it's about the person programming the sounds. 2 of my favourite sound designers for that sort of softer relaxing ambient are Yuroun (which has mainly done banks for Alchemy) and Julian Ray (whose Kobold bank for PolyKobol is full of beautiful warm ambient sounds).

Yuroun too, although he did have a real creative energy for Alchemy patches and appears to have taken some time to find alternatives, Alchemy is a great tool for this, my point was just that the tool also needs to be in the right hands

A great starter without spending oodles of $$ would be Art-Pyrite by Artvera- it's veritably designed for ambient, relaxing music! There's a free version and a paid version (also available in a Kontakt version).
