I like squeaky cleanEvilDragon wrote:It's not about caring or not caring. Or rather, it is about caring to stay true to the real thing... Repro emulates the original Prophet-5 circuits. This is likely a sideeffect of such circuit. Guess what, most real analog synths aren't squeaky clean like what you're used to from a good number of softsynths...fluffy_little_something wrote:If Urs cares, I have pinpointed what I think is the cause and provided screenshots. If he doesn't care, I don't care, either, as I have not bought Repro.
Basically I don't have a problem with mild saturation, except with pads. It seems to add up when playing several notes at the same time. But as I said, only when using detuned oscillators. With non-detuned oscillators, Repro 5 pads sound clean as well. And that's what I find odd, as if the saturation only kicked in big time with detuned oscillators. Maybe some mathematical/physical phenomenon that is beyond me

It's the same reason why RP5 has the per-voice saturation FX.
And the same reason why e-guitarists invented power chords. Saturated thirds (+3/4 semitons) sound much worse compared to fifths (+7 semitones).

An HP filter won't help you remove distortion between voices. The distortion is part of the signal and cutting off lower frequencies won't remove it from the rest of the domain.fluffy_little_something wrote:I like squeaky cleanIt is easier to fit in the mix. Maybe that's why Roland gave the Jupiter a hp filter
If you really want squeaky-clean then Repro might not be for you. Any number of pristine digital softsynths would be better suited for that task.
Feel free to call me Brian.

So, here with and without detuning...

IMO, emulating saturation is as difficult as modelling filters. Really few plugins which do that nicely, in my eyes. Most plugins have some really "digital" sounding saturation, drive or distortion. Just one of those things.fluffy_little_something wrote: Basically I don't have a problem with mild saturation, except with pads.
Best drive i ever heard is in this video, from the Pulse 2 (at 3:02):

My comment aside, do you hear any grinding sounds in any of the 3 demos I posted? That's a 3 octave spread.fluffy_little_something wrote:Do you really think I will waste my time again on your false quote of what I said...wagtunes wrote:And here it is 2 octaves down.

Sorry, but I have no clue what you're hearing.
No wonder you don't like any synths.

CPU use isn't remotely exceptional for me in MC mode.egbert101 wrote:Something to consider: Repro's enormous CPU usage might mean you have to increase your DAW's buffer size.

In the first one I hear no noise.wagtunes wrote:My comment aside, do you hear any grinding sounds in any of the 3 demos I posted? That's a 3 octave spread.
But it's irrelevant, I have already posted my own audios that show what I mean.

Well, we have two variables.fluffy_little_something wrote:In the first one I hear no noise.wagtunes wrote:My comment aside, do you hear any grinding sounds in any of the 3 demos I posted? That's a 3 octave spread.

1) The latest demo version is not the same as the released version.
2) Your PC and my PC are different.
The fact that I demo'd the exact same patch and recorded it 3 different times and you hear no grinding indicates that the problem has to be on your end.
But really, why do I even care? It's not like you'd ever consider buying it. So really, I'm just wasting my time.

I didn't say that I didn't hear the noise on all three of your audio files.wagtunes wrote:Well, we have two variables.fluffy_little_something wrote:In the first one I hear no noise.wagtunes wrote:My comment aside, do you hear any grinding sounds in any of the 3 demos I posted? I don't even know which notes you played...
All I need to do in order to hear the noise is load the patch, turn off all effects, turn noise to zero (just to be fair
Again, what's the point of your unprofessional, irrelevant remarks on whether or not I buy something? It doesn't change anything about a technical property...

Okay, let me try that and see what I get. Just to make sure I duplicate the test as closely as possible.fluffy_little_something wrote:I didn't say that I didn't hear the noise on all three of your audio files.wagtunes wrote:Well, we have two variables.fluffy_little_something wrote:In the first one I hear no noise.wagtunes wrote:My comment aside, do you hear any grinding sounds in any of the 3 demos I posted? All I need to do in order to hear the noise is load the patch, turn off all effects, turn noise to zero (just to be fair), and play for instance the simple chord c4 - e4 - g4. Then double click the frequency knob of osc 2 and play the same chord again, the noise is gone.
Again, what's the point of your unprofessional, irrelevant remarks on whether or not I buy something? It doesn't change anything about a technical property...
Patch - New Day
Turn off all FX
Turn noise down to zero
Play c major chord starting at C4
Correct?
