Anyone tried it? Ambient & soundscape oriented experimental reverb.

''Mikron Cascade is the perfect tool to create atmospheric, ambient and drone soundscapes. It diffuses any sound input into a lively, lush, warm 'sound cloud'. The fine-tuned delay models are specifically designed to create organic cinematic atmospheres. A little detuning of the source material can build up interesting tensions. Play around with the density setting to go from distinct reflections to colored noise. Or freeze the input to build up resonating sounds.

Mikron Cascade has been originally developed as a sound effect for the Cascade synthesizer. Thanks to its complex delay network a sound run through Mikron Cascade can develop over time, adding extra dimensions to it. Which makes it the ideal plugin for those who are looking for a high quality ambient reverb, but one with far more complexity in it than usual.''

I liked it but unfortunately it completely brings my computer to its knees. Simple to use and some pretty great sounds out of it. That was in the 2 minutes I could get it to work. Then after two complete system lockups I thought f**k this and uninstalled it.

Any similar plugins or alternatives that would do the same thing?

Post

I'm having a lot of fun with it right now... on a macbook pro i7, 2.2. Not having major issues, but it's the only thing I'm using, along with logic's electric piano. Seems like the kind of thing to tweak and let run for a while on it's own rather than stick in a song. Though I'm sure someone could prove me wrong. Sounds pretty great, I could imagine doing a really nice ambient set with just this and a guitar :)

definitely worth a spin in my opinion.

Valhalla 'Shimmer' and Eventide 'Blackhole'

haven't made any side-by-side audio comparisons though, but on paper they seem to occupy the same space.

Can you tell me in which host that was? Or maybe PM me a bit more details about the lockup? At what moment did it happen, did you run any other plugins? In our own tests we haven't run into any problems, but we didn't test in all possible hosts and versions. Would be great if we would be able to fix this.

MGranularMB can do things that are somewhat similar. You can of course freeze things, but then you can't add new sounds once its frozen. If you added a delay after it you could do similar things though. Here is a video where I show how you can create grain clouds with it.

Diffuse by Surreal Machines can produce ambient sounding delays.

The diffusion mode of Replika and Replika XT by Native Instruments might be worth investigating too.

Looks interesting

I find it very different sounding than Shimmer and Blackhole. There is a grainy coating that I like in this one, especially when using one of the short delay network models. Sounds like a blend of stretching with reverb and delay. Pretty cool.

Not sure yet if I really need it, as I have other tools that might overlap on this one but still, definitely an interesting plugin for anyone interested into huge lush soundscapes. Price is neat too.

From reading the spec, it reminds me of Sandman from Unfiltered Audio ...

It is.... do yourself a favour and try the demo, it's fully working for 60 days... even if you don't end up buying it I suspect you will at least spend some time play around with it for fun.... free fun.

Personally, I have never found a plugin in this category of function to suite me. This is the first one that actually seem to click with me.

Just one thing so far, the fine tune function (CTRL) is being a b*tch, I don't know if its by design but I have to drag the mouse way accross my table to get it to react. I probably doing something wrong...

Bought yesterday after 1 minute testing, quite impressed (as well very low cpu usage, something about 2% to core).
