As a video editor it seems great so far, though for me the most interesting part is the color grading section with automation controls. The fairlight seems to be a very good idea but not really "there". ASIO is not supported right now ( https://forum.blackmagicdesign.com/view ... 21&t=59609 ) , but anyways - for me this is still a video editor with a top design / workflow.

My favorite video editor still is Hitfilm Express 2017 (also free), a bit limited concerning the timeline editor functions, but with a great vfx areal - and a very helpful community.

I love resolve as a video editor. In terms of the Fairlight integration or use as a DAW in its own right, it reminds me much of 90's-era Vegas (some people used it as an audio-only DAW at the time), or perhaps apple's SoundTrack Pro.

Given how well blackmagic seems to deal with their feature set, it'll definitely be cool to see where they run with this as it matures. While I probably wouldn't hold my breath for midi/virtual instruments, a really good audio implementation will certainly be a serious double-strength, even if the video editing is still what carries it.

Funny, I ran into seeing some images of Vegas when I tried to find Magix older sequencers from years back last night. Magix from way back incidently did step into the video side also with their software also, I don't think it was anything like DaVinci Resolve 14, in terms of video editing.

If DaVinci Resolve 14 with Fairlight Audio does solidify the audio side, iron out some issues, VST Instrument support could be the next step. There could be scope for a pretty catchy tag line and renaming, "A Daw With A Bigger Vision Than Others" :hihi:

'DaVinci Production Studio 16' could work well I think :phones:

I've recently been getting into timelapse video stuff, which is pretty cool.

Blackmagic's stategy is interesting. Offering very usable video editing (Resolve) and video compositing (Fusion) software for free. And the pro version with free updates is only €300!

There not a DAW software company that offers something. Free versions of DAWs are mostly very limiting. Although Image Line offers FL Studio with free updates and a demo that has no limitations.

I've been using Fusion 8 for the past few months, it's a fantastic alternative to After Effects, if you can understand how the node system works. I do have version 7 of After Effects and also Premier CS2, (Part of the Adobe Production bundle), I acquired in 2006 also. With Adobe going to the cloud with practically everything, Blackmagic's Fusion 8 is pretty special...it's probably what I'm more keen on buying than Davinci Resolve, as it allows 3D model importation from Cinema 4D I use, and has some nice features like motion tracking objects within film. I've already got a big sci-fi film soundtrack (currently unpublished and based on a prototype cyborg)... There's going to lots of storyboarding for this animated film I think...just hope I don't kill my PC doing it all.
