To me it seems pretty obvious that Propellerheads are very likely struggling tremendously right now...

How so? It seems like they have a loyal fanbase to me, and they also get revenue from their rack extensions. I do admit that I find it one of the most frustrating DAWs/companies, because there are a lot of great things about Reason, they just seem unwilling to update the workflow and gui issues that it has had for years.jens wrote:To me it seems pretty obvious that Propellerheads are very likely struggling tremendously right now...

Only if they get bought by Gibson! Is propellerhead the next cakewalk?
Gibson has a history of killing the musical electronics companies they purchase. Oberheim and Opcode are two older examples that immediately come to mind. Of course, Cakewalk is the latest victim.

Recently? That was almost 3 years agogas pump wrote:I would be more concerned with Image-Line and FL Studio. They recently sold off their Deckadance DJ Software to Gibson, what a small world. I'd be more concerned with their financial statement.
Let's talk about Deckadance.
It's 2007 and the DJ market was swinging away from hardware to software. Every year at NAMM/MESSE there were more and more DJ controllers hitting the market, many times that of standard Keyboard controllers. Someone was buying these things. We decided to see if we could play in that space and make something as successful as FL Studio was.
8 years hard work later ...
2015 Deckadance was doing OK, but it was making about the same money as a successful FL Studio plugin. On the other hand Deckadance was dividing resources (marketing, support, back office, development). Over that same time, FL Studio sales had gone through the roof and we saw DJ hardware was making a comeback (the tables had turned). So we decided to sell Deckadance and double down on our core success, FL Studio. So we sold it.
This is nothing but a sign we have some very smart people making business decisions at Image-Line. Financially, Image-Line is in excellent shape. In private hands: Don't underestimate how important this. It affords a company long-term strategic planning and the luxury of pursuing it without interference. We also have zero debt: No-one to answer to, except our customers.
Every year for (at least the last 17?) we have experienced record sales compared to the previous year. Thanks to everyone who is purchasing FL Studio
TLDR: No need to worry about Image-Line.
Regards Scott

I agree whole heartedly with that sentiment.Image-Line wrote:Financially, Image-Line is in excellent shape. In private hands: Don't underestimate how important this. A 'loyal fanbase' means almost nothing when they are consistently annoyed for a decade, and you get 1% of the new-user marketshare....djrevise5 wrote:How so? I bought my first DAW in 2014. Because Reason did not have VST support at the time, I did not purchase it.
Now it has VST support. Which I find unbelievable. For me it's about credibility. At least I except some long term vision when I purchase a software license. A vision that a company has to live up to IMO
It's not about some short term investment. My 2c.

Indeed. That's why i never got why people asked for VST support in Reason. Has ZERO to do with their vision. And you can be sure that Ernst Nathorst-Böös would have never signed it off without the new investors in his back.Woodgardens wrote:For me it's about credibility.
