Are you REALLY trying to prove that the JV-1080 is not a Virtual Analog? Really?Frantz wrote:Tweaking the filters reveals additional crappy sounds on an actual JV-1080.
Roland JV-1080 finally, as virtual instrument!

this is not about the jv 1080 being a plug out for the system 8 , wishfull thinking on your side .
I was stating it doesn't matter from what piece of hardware the rom is taken from , either xv/fantom or integra .
Just posting some filter sweeps to showcase the pcm synth abilities .
This forum is getting worse by the day

No, it's obvious to me. Apparently some people think a JV-1080 sounds as good as current VAs. The whole discussion is getting silly.fmr wrote:Are you REALLY trying to prove that the JV-1080 is not a Virtual Analog? freq .set to 40
resonance to 99
filter env depth to 40
and a long decaying envelope , filter sustain zeo .
Let's compare your ( so called ) crappy 1080 to the integra pcm and see if your filter really sounds that bad .
Get it on

What?
It doesn't matter TO YOU. But it does matter to others. Mostly because it is not a JV-1080, nor a JV-2080, nor a XV-5080. So, we were trying to divise where the code could come from. The same way we tried to divise where the D-50 code came from when it was launched, and we finally concluded it came from the V-Synth XT (or V-Synth "cards")gentleclockdivider wrote: I was stating it doesn't matter from what piece of hardware the rom is taken from , either xv/fantom or integra.

I have a crappy 2080, not a 1080. I will hook it up later tonight. I haven't used it in a few years.
Can you post your sound example first so I can match it as closely as possible?

I had an xp 80 , which is 99 % of what the jv 2080 is , the filters are dated yes , but good enough for most stuff.Frantz wrote:I have a crappy 2080, not a 1080. I will hook it up later tonight. I haven't used it in a few years.

I almost sure they sound the same as the inetegra pcm filter
sure here the integra pcm filter in action

settings
osc jp8 saw ( or any other pure saw )
filter type lpf
cutof 20
Reso 120
filter envelope
envelope depth +40
key follow off
time 1 : 0
time 2 :92
time 3 : 10
time 4 : 64
envelope level 0 : 0
envelope level 1 :127
envelope lvel 2 : 0
envelope level 3 : 0
amplevel : full sustain
And here a bit of realtime tweaking , standard midi cc for cut/reso and att/decay

Tunes produced on a hardware JV-!080 today are 64% betterer than any music produced today on softsynths. That percentage rises to 83% if those tunes were written during the 90s due to the location of the earth relative to the galactic center at that time. It's a scientifical fact backed up by research done by clipboard wielding experts in labcoats.Frantz wrote:No, it's obvious to me. I copied your settings exactly using Waveform INT-B 030: JP-8 Saw A.gentleclockdivider wrote: I had an xp 80 , which is 99 % of what the jv 2080 is , the filters are dated yes , but good enough for most stuff.

I am wondering if you had a typo because it is a filter sweep up but your recording sounds like the filter might have been swept down.
In any case, it sounds very different which suggests that Roland upgraded their filters and synth engine in the almost 20 years between the JV-2080 and the Integra-7.
I wasn't sure what note you played so I recorded the note C at 6 different octaves going up the keyboard. And yes, the JV-2080 sounds as crappy and harsh as I remembered.

If you copied my settings ,how come you have an upward rising filter envelope ?
Yes , not a typo
Time 1 = 0 meaning instanttly go to level 1 = 127
time 2 = 92 ( this is the decaying part ) which goes from level 1 to level 2 = 0
Just like the good old dx envelopes
Maybe try again with an ini.patch
