Try completely removing all Synthmaster files from your whole computer, then reinstall with the latest build. I don't use a Mac so don't know all the locations, but many people have had upgrade/crash issues, myself included, and from what I can tell, most come from old files located somewhere that confuse SM and cause the host to crash.

Just updated to 2.9.5, first time I update to a 2.9 version

I like how the envelopes, lfos etc. are better organized with drop-down menus.
Only issue is, for instance, I click on ADSR1 and the drop-down menu appears but unless I first click elsewhere to make it disappear, clicking on the other tabs (MSEG, LFO etc...) keeps giving the same ADSR drop-down menu.

I know it's a minor issue but I'm just pointing this out for possible unexpected gui behaviour
Currently in Reaper 5.70 on Windows 7

Yes I am aware of that issue. Will fix in our 2.9.6 update

Something must be different in your configuration. Have you tried sending us the crash report?

Please do a real clean installation:

1. delete /library/application support/kv331 audio/synthmaster
2. delete /documents/synthmaster/config/synthmasterconfig.txt

reinstall full setup at: http://www.synthmaster.com/downloadfile.aspx?fileId=43

Also can you please fix the issue where drag and drop modulation adds an extra empty entry in the mod matrix?

The memory issue is also pretty bad too for both synthmaster 2.9 and synthmaster one.

I'll look into the drag and drop issue. For the memory management issue, I have to test it very well before releasing the fix, because it's prone to crashes if multi-threaded processing is not handled correctly.

Since I haven't read the thread I don't know what the memory issue is, but in general if you can avoid shared data between threads and just use message passing, bugs tend to disappear magically:)

I'm already using messaging between threads, that's really a good software pattern.

I first need to figure out how to correctly count the references for a waveform/wavetable that's loaded. once the reference is 0 it should be in "marked for deletion" state. I will eventually figure this out, it's mandatory for SynthMaster One iOS anyways :)

Thought someone in this thread might have had the same issue but it doesn’t sound like anyone mentions “Bluffmunkey” (aka @tehlord), here. Anybody else have factory presets throwing errors that content is missing, especially wavetables (say “Blufftable 13.2”)?

Happens with a bunch of those Bluffmunkey patches. What’s weirder is that the “BAS Subway BM” patch actually crashes the plugin and even takes down my DAW. This is with either the AU or VST version, in Tracktion Waveform (where it crashes to the desktop) and Bitwig 8-Track (where the plugin gets disabled). On a 2012 MacBook Pro running macOS High Sierra 10.13.2 and the most recent version of the plugin (2.9.5). Tried reinstalling everything, same exact problem.

Of course, these specific presets aren’t that big a deal. But it’d be fun to try them and it’s really strange that such a patch could crash a plugin so hard.

Another example is the persistent red lines in the interface. Although it’s not a showstopper by any means, it makes everything feel a little unfinished, unpolished and ”beta” to me.
That's my impression of SM too.
Yep, sadly exactly. It's a beast synth, but always feel unfinished and unreliable...
Ditto. Haven’t known SynthMaster for long, but both dimensions really strike me: it’s really a monster synth, at least “on paper”, but it feels like a prototype. Not that there’s anything wrong with prototyping, especially when users can get involved. But since this synth has been out for some years, it feels like it might be time for a cleanup. Or a rethinking.
Sounds like the SynthMaster One release gave them a bit of that. The skins are a bit cleaner, the genre names make a bit more sense, the factory presets are a bit more representative, and that’s apparently where the wavetable synth got refactored a bit. It’s still hard to shake the feeling that this is a work in progress, a promising project with a lot of potential but, so far, something which hasn’t reached the level of polish one might expect from a commercial product.
And this was before reading any comment here.

What gets me about this is that some of this synth’s features make me want to invest more time in time. The MPE support is a good example. There aren’t that many MPE-savvy synths out there and several of the others either leave me cold, in terms of sound design, or cost enough money to really give me pause. The expanded wavetable oscillator also sets this synth into a new category. Not to mention support for diverse tunings in Scala format and the availability of an iOS player version. In theory, this is the optimal synth for me. But, in the end, it’s hard for me to really feel comfortable in it.

Synthmaster added a lot of stuff to the original synth over the years, it's kind of a Frankenstein's Monster synth right now :hihi: 3.0 is supposed to be out in less than a year and I hope it will make everything feel a lot better integrated and polished. I feel like I get a lot more out of Synthmaster One right now, Synthmaster itself is more a preset player and tinker-toy than something I enjoy making new sounds with. But I have high hopes for Synthmaster 3 :tu:

I do believe that a solid SM2 would be the absolute best advertising "business card" for SM3 when it's ready, because it would add positively to the developer reputation.

As far as having the plugin working reliably, I begin to think that 2.9.6 or 2.9.7 could be the ones.

I have high hopes on that, honestly I am still not using it consistently, but if the 2.9 branch proves to be it I will be more than happy to become a (fair and positive) fanboy :)

At least for now I got rid of the red lines in the interface  It may be incidental, but it doesn't scream 'beta' at me when I look at it anymore. I hope Bulent includes that change when he releases the next update, (edit the skin files to make the red transparent instead) it only takes a couple of minutes to edit the image files, but it looks sooooo much better.
