Squids

:hail: :hail: :hail: for putting so many of the Genesis sounds into Sonik Synth 2. It's a dream come true to have those sounds at all, much less within one product. I get chills thinking about being able to play (well, at least sorta) this music that I love so much - The Lamb, Wind & Wuthering, Trick Of The Tail,... SS2 is definitely at the top of my must-have products - unforunately it'll probably be next year before I can afford it! Regardless, it'll be fun to play with SS2 Free in the meantime. Hope there's lots of Yes sounds in SS2 also.

By the way - do you have Tony Banks first solo album (A Curious Feeling)? I really love that one also - it feels like a very personal album for Tony - introspective and moody.

Oh - I almost forgot! Loved those clips you posted from the Lamb gig. I like how you guys transitioned into Watcher at the end of It - pretty cool. Any possibility of posting more from that show?

Kinda like what happened after "Calling All Stations"! (Which actually has a couple of decent cuts.)

Too bad it didn't hit any mormons  :hihi:

OK!

Comedy time is over!

Back to the real thread - Squids - where are you?

I need you to get this thread back on track!

Now THAT is a UFO!

Sonik Synth 2 FREE will be a fun one. The full version be an endless source of synths by comparison naturally though.

Yes sounds? You want those? Sure! They're in there too. There's one sound that I like that is very much like And You and I or Close to the Edge. It's a patch called "Close to Yes" and I believe that will be available to Keyboard magazine readers (for those that know the secret link mentioned in the magazine) perhaps... tomorrow? ;) :D

But, in the full module there are a ton of Yes and Genesis and ELP (in fact, we sampled Keith's actual keyboards including his GX-1 but that's a whole other story that I will share later) plus Rush and... I mean, there are a ton of classic synth sounds in it but that is just a part of it. It is still a whole workstation with massive combi patches, wacked out synthetic drums, orchestral and vocal textures and atmospheric pads with evolving... it is IMMENSE (the full version).

There's also some cool synth patches (and on the free version). There is one I like called "Pink Freud". Maybe it's been done before but I thought I was real clever for a moment on that one (in fact there are three patches in the special free version that are fun for messing around with a sort of "On the Run" type thing.... one where the filter is controlled by the modwheel and others with LFOs).

As for more Lamb clips... I am working on posting some video. I think I posted most of the audio. I guess the only one I didn't post was Musical Box though.

By the way, while it was my idea to do It/Watcher at the show (because I always thought the live ending of just IT was cheesy), I can't take credit. I got the idea straight from Genesis on the 4th side live (a great version with Bruford drumming).

Anyway, cool thread. ;)

I have to agree about "a curious feeling", very good album. Lethe, does your user name come from that? for some reason the word is assocuated in my mind with that album... just went and checked track 3 side 2!

And also about the Squids Genesis songs, I downloaded them all. By the way squids, what is the keyboard on the intro to 'Grand parade' (love those crazy chords at the end of that too). I think it might also be on the begining quiet bit of "the cage", but I don't have the files here to check.

I have my suspicians but I won't make a fool of myself...

Well spotted Zoing! I've been waiting for someone to pick up on that. Tony has a song called "The Waters of Lethe" on that album and I was trying to choose a nick that only a die-hard Genesis/Tony Banks fan would recognize. I wonder if there is a town or area in the UK called Lethe? Someday I'll look it up.

Heh, if so you may have been there and forgot! But I think not.

Lethe, the River of Oblivion, was a river in Greek mythology whose waters brought forgetfulness. It flowed through Hades, which -- unless it's short for "Hadeshire" -- is probably not in the UK. :-)

When you died, one of the things your ghost had to do was drink its water so you wouldn't remember life.

:-o

So my nick is a river in Hades whose water will make you forget your former life?

I knew that Tony was being very thoughtful and introspective about the meaning of existence at times (one of the reasons I like his music). And I thought Lethe was probably a place in the UK. How quaint!

Thanks Meffy for clearing up my delusion. I still like the song.

Ah, but it's a Very Deep Name! Goes back much farther than you thought. Consider that -- the ancients would've recognized your nick, had they only been KvR members.

*ponder*

Hmm, now that I think on it, some of us are KvR members...

Lethe Weapon 3 starring The Mel the Gibson?
:D

Cool. Meffy is full of info like that. Go Meff!

Zoingster, that is an RMI at the beginning of both tunes. An RMI Electra Piano (or something cheesy like that- had a few other names too I believe). In Grand Parade it is played in it's wonderful NO velocity and no sustain pedal PIANO mode ;) and in Cage it is played in its "ORGAN" mode through an MXR Phaser (which is the secret Tony squirly pad thing he played all the time in the mid 70's... and of course it is in Sonik Synth 2).

The word "lethal," though Latin in origin, is thought by some to have been influenced by the similar-sounding (and no doubt familiar to the Romans) Greek name.
Meffy is full of info
"Info"...? You're very kind. :-D Some have other words for it.
