In that case try to restart/reload Avenger simply. Seems to me a randomly appearing problem which only happens at the first start.David82 wrote:Ok im completely stumped, still doesnt work, not even registering in the synth anymore
Its also not recognising another soundbank i purchased recently
Any ideas

So.. David82's authorization woes reminded me of something. I have also done lots of uninstalling/reinstalling/deleting license files and generating new ones, etc. when dealing with a bug I encountered a couple versions back.
Is there a counter somewhere of how many license files you've used? Is there a chance that at some point I run out of licenses (like what happens with Ableton Live) for using too many activations, even though all but one of them were on the same machine?

We need an updated license file every time we purchase a new expansion so as long as all the (re)installing is made on the same machine (so you input the same system ID everytime you generate a fresh license) it should not be the case for Avenger.Razzia wrote: Is there a counter somewhere of how many license files you've used? The limit for different machines is 3, maybe Manuel can shed a light on what happens for example when I reached 3 and I would like to activate a 4th system ID (but also want to deactivate on of the previous 3 activations because I don't use it anymore) - real life scenario in a Vienna Ensemble Pro servers upgrade.

Received some unexpected post-christmas money at job, threw EUR 160 of it at Keilwerth for Avenger - yay, finally
Installation went flawless.
- When I filter e.g. by Bells, Avenger lists all respective presets. When I click the left/right button beside the preset name on top, IMO it should browse through the search results, also the selection focus should follow the entry - which it does not.
- Oh I hope we get a more dark and elegant skin one day, with less 3D going on. More the Valhalla approach... Also, faux wood may be important, as you all know, it'll sound warmer then
Love this synth. It's a pleasure for sound design. Superb workflow for me. Exactly how I can work with.
UI in terms of graphics is not too good (waste of space left side, fonts not good), but I knew that prior to buying.

Guys, I may be blind. With the default preset (also deleted it, Avenger defaults to a simple saw wave preset), I cannot have attack time set. Filter1 is enabled in that global routing, no matter how far I set attack, on note play I always have an insta attack. If I set the adsr source to env1, no matter how I set env1, it is the same, instant attack.
I was stupid. Amp attack vs. Filter attack. *Facepalm* SOLVED.
Wish you guys a good year to come.
Best regards
Michael

So, I’m looking to waste some money
that I got for Christmas, and I’ve been sort of ignoring the software world a bit and focusing on hardware. I had it in my head that I’d buy Icarus, but before I did, I thought, WWSSD? (What would Simon Stockhausen do?
) and I saw he did a bank for VPS Avenger. It seems like 10 times the synth that Icarus is. This isn’t a “need” (when is it ever?) as I do already have a nice complement of hardware and software synths including Serum, Falcon, Omnisphere 2, etc (heavy on the etc.) but more like something to have some more and different kinds of sound exploration. Is this “The One?”

Well what would I do? Probably demo and then buy it.zerocrossing wrote:So, I’m looking to waste some moneythat I got for Christmas, and I’ve been sort of ignoring the software world a bit and focusing on hardware. Since the granular update Avenger certainly has become a different kind of workhorse and with the new cross FM feature introduced in 1.3.0, more sonic variety has been put to the sound design table. There are some big flaws with Avenger but also many many positive aspects, especially the versatile modulation system and the number of synthesis methods available.
My biggest gripe with Avenger is the lack of a batch processing feature for several oscillators and the lack of being able to copy modulation assignments with an oscillator. That leads to a lot of manual repetitive robotic work if one builds patches which work around the lack of sample map editing for multi-samples or the wrong root note assignments when importing multi-granular samples. As it is now, Avenger will map multi-samples like this:
Sample1_c3 (highest note is c3)
Sample2_c4 (plays from c#3 – c4)
Sample3_c5 (play from c#4 and above until the end of the key-zone has been reached (which can be set per oscillator)
As I said, the user can not edit this mapping which in itself is not logical (each zone should play up to f# like in other samplers with automatic mapping). Also Avenger does not read sample rates correctly other than 44.1, imported samples at e.g. 48 Khz are off by almost a semi-tone.
Another bug: frequent high clicking noises when using multi-samples, these randomly come and go, I have been reporting this since day 1, but it's still occurring today.
If I e.g. create a multi-sampled granular patch which uses a certain soundscape/texture sampled at three pitches/root notes, I will use three dedicated oscillators which then lets me do zone crossfades and range assignments, if a lot of modulation is involved, it can take hours to manually edit all the modulation assignments per oscillator because of the lack of a batch edit function (like in Falcon/HALion, you name it).
But the sounds I'm getting out of Avenger are very satisfying, full, rich, complex, high fidelity, organic, warm, futuristic and there is a workaround for everything if one is willing to invest the time for it.

don't forget Simon: you do more complex presets than 90% of all other users out there

But imo if I'd like to build more simple patches I'd rather use Sylenth, Hive or TheLegend. I'd never use Avenger for a supersaw or a filtered square bass. The complexity & modulation is its strength, else it would be a waste of resources like cpu or gpu power.msvs wrote:don't forget Simon: you do more complex presets than 90% of all other users out there

I have both. Icarus is excellent, even more with the 1.5 recent update.zerocrossing wrote:So, I’m looking to waste some moneythat I got for Christmas, and I’ve been sort of ignoring the software world a bit and focusing on hardware. But for me, Avenger is far better and is the One.

Doing a demo is hard at the moment, as I’ve got daddy-daycare duty until next week and I fear I’ll miss the sale. I really appreciate your in-depth criticism of it, though I don’t think it will affect me that much, as I’m not a big sampling guy. I’ll mostly use it as a wavetable synth.Sampleconstruct wrote:Well what would I do? I know Icarus is better on the wavetable side of things (I’ve done an in depth demo) but what bugs me about it are the paltry LFO and EG options. Avenger seems to really shine. Icarus might have a bit more defined character, which is a plus, but I’ve also got other wavetable synths like a Pro 2 and Waldorf PPG 3 that are very characterful.
