The problem is that there are people here who contend that if you buy a lot of synths, you don't make music.

I find no correlation between the two, but whatever.
I make music because music makes me feel good.
And I buy synths and plugins when they make me feel good (the sound, the ability to use them).

It is all positive to me. :phones:

On a serious note...

hmmm not sure which part of the uk youre in, but here that's not entirely correct. yes gender is fluid in essence, but little boys cant just use the little girls changing rooms. well not outside of the daily mail.

but that's not even slightly relevant to a small joke...

My last word... :D
Good luck for the boys going in the girls toilet. They will be torn to shreds.
What idiocy.

Suggestion: Everyone who burns his or her ass pissing out the campfire goes to the women toilet.
The rest to the men toilet.

Wagtunes, point me out the posts in this topic where anyone says "if you buy a lot of synths, you don't make music" :)

Your own words. I've bolded the relevant statement.
I disagree with something. It has nothing to do with being a musician and buying instruments. Musician makes music. I make music, i have alot of collegues (professionals) who make music but they dont have this insane craze of buying things, on a contrary they have few favorite instruments and dont even update them for years. Being a member in KVR what i learned is that alot of people here are not really musicians, but rather synth enthusiasts :) And buying things that you are not having much use of is not really investment but a money loss
I'm not sure how else one is supposed to take that statement other than "If you buy lots of synths, you're not a musician." And therefore, you're not making music.

I get you're intent on picking a fight with me and you're being quite defensive about what you said, but there it is. Now if that isn't what you meant by your statement, I'm more than happy to hear an explanation of exactly what it was that you meant by the part in bold print.

But I refuse to let you turn this thread into a train wreck. Have your say, and then we're done.

Understand?

My intent is not to pick a fight with you but to correct you because you clrearly translate what is said in to something that is not.

What i wrote there is clear as its written. There are no hidden meanings. If you translatate that in to "If you buy lots of synths, you're not a musician." Then its your own fault. I said "alot of people here are not really musicians, but rather synth enthusiasts". Its very different from what you translated...

And this thread not gonna become a trainwreck if you will read without making up what it means, understud? :)

Musician: Definiton according to Websters

"a person who writes, sings, or plays music"

Your statement:
alot of people here are not really musicians, but rather synth enthusiasts
Logic: If you are not a musician, then you don't write, sing or play music.

You can sugarcoat and try to deny what you said all you want. But your words, the definition of musician, and plain logic dictates otherwise.

Clearly it is you who don't understand.

And with that, I am done with you.

And now let's take a look at the weather.

Its your logic that doesnt understand. What i wrote is what i wrote i didnt had any other meaning. Its you who make some weird meanings out of it. Stop interpretating me, i know what i said and i know what i ment, ffs i just explained to you, dont be annoying.

Come on Wags dont be a women and stop make meanings that are not there!
Also stop nitpicking and dont start a meaningless fight. No one needs that.

And now to something completely different:
I survived the second day without buying something!
I spent my day trying to capture some non-trivial pulsing rhythms and I was not that successful... Maybe tomorrow!

Hey folks, I'm gonna go have my dinner now and watch some TV. I'll leave it up to you guys to determine what was meant by his statement because I'm obviously too stupid and obtuse to get it.

Also, I'm a women (actually the word is woman as women is plural, but whatever) so I must have grown breasts and a vagina since the last time I looked. So give me a few moments to hit the head so I can see if somebody operated on me during the night.

Gotta love this place. LMAO.

You dont have to determine what is ment just read :) its a simple look lets break down the sentance:

"Alot of members" - significant number (not all) of KVR members
"Are not really musicians" - a significant number of people dont do music as profession, some of those are just beginners or just trying out to see how it is to make music ect ect ect
"But rather synths enthusiasts" - they are more excited about the tools itself rather then music making process or creating something.

See its that simple :) enjoy your dinner! Im going to sleep (its 00:00 here) :)

Good job! Practice makes perfect!

And music making isnt easy so it will take time :) but dont worry after a year or two you will notice some improvement :)

Yesterday I had a GAS 'attack' when I saw DX7 V in email from Arturia! I downloaded the demo (again!) and really thought to draw from my saving to buy it! But then, I loaded FM8, Dexed and Synclavier V. Although Arturia did a great job with DX7 emulation, but FM8 is still great especially when I raised the unison and played little bit with. Then between the trillion presets available for Dexed and FM functions in Synclavier I could calm down till I no longer felt the urge to buy it.

It was with a discount, and this is a main cause for a GAS! Also the 2nd hand market is very addictive and once you PMed the seller and he/she answer you quickly, you have been trapped! Sometimes the threads here talking about a new synth fills me with GAS as well.

It has been some years with bad GAS. Now, I'm trying to deal with it according to one criteria "Why are you buying this?". For me, I am not sound designer (as a job), nor a synthesizer collector (nothing wrong with that IMO). So, why I'm buying this new tool? My main answer is to help me to make a better music, but did I make the same with all the tools I bought before? Did I even try them to make a better music? Mostly the answer 'No'!

Now, I know there are different needs and tastes ..etc. I'm talking about my case that I noticed some people here have the same condition or syndrome as I do! This is a very similar to be 'shopaholic', a person who can't stop shopping! It is addiction and IMO must be faced and solved.

I don't believe in one synth solution either (this is another syndrom it seems! :hihi: ) But if we do know how to use really what we have, we don't need so many synths/tools to make music. Sound designers are exception because their job is to do presets, so their criteria for buying synths is different from those who is making music.

Let me face it, how many synths do I need? How many compressors and EQ? What DAWs I'm using mostly? Why I have more than one DAW? What 'security' does with all this or do i trust this company?

Lately (last month) I bought only one new synth, but I also re-bought other three synths! Yes, it is too much! I felt too much when I started a new project in Cubase and felt overwhelming with synths and effects! So, that I realized that when I begin to make music, I start to wonder, "why I have all these synths and tools?".

It is time to be with strong will and stop spending my money because of GAS! :hihi:

p.s.
I could quit smoking before, so this is a much easier task :D
Using: Cubase Pro 15, Reason 13, Tascam US-4x4HR, MODX6, DM12D, LaunchKey 49, Yamaha guitar(Pacifica 612v) and bass (BB234) and some virtual instruments and synths.

If you're saying you bought 3 synths that you presently own, then yes, it's time for inventory and reflection. :D
