Is there a plugin that will sync sound files to existing tracks?

I bought a Sony PCM D100. It's a handheld recording device with high quality microphones. I want to record vocals and acoustic guitar and then drop the sound files into existing tracks on a DAW. However, it is very limited in sync options. No metronome, no multi-track, nothing. It has a 3.5mm optical in jack, but I don't have a compatible machine to sync it to.
I want to sing and play guitar into the thing using an external metronome and then sync it to a conventional DAW. I know one way to do this is to fiddle around in a DAW until you get it close enough. Is there an app?
As I am writing this, I remember that Ableton Live has some feature that will read tempo, but will it sync the beginning of my guitar track to the beginning of the song in my DAW?

Max for Live
BeatSeeker
by Andrew Robertson
BeatSeeker is a responsive Max for Live device that adapts Live’s tempo to stay in time with a drummer or other rhythmic audio. It lets bands maintain their natural groove when performing with Live.

Any use to you?

This is the same method MJ used when he was working on Anthony Marinelli's Thriller.

I think that sounds like what I am looking for...I have Live 8 suite and no plans to upgrade. Is Max part of my current holdings? Sorry, I haven't played with the program for awhile.

What if you just put the DAW tracks (guiding metronome) on headphones. Then your vocals & guitar are at least at the same tempo.
We are the KVR collective. Resistance is futile. You will be assimilated.

Not too worried about tempo. I can get get that off my phone. Syncing it by hand is a real inspiration killer....

If you have Live, and are able to set a tempo on the tracks you want to import, it should be really simple. Live wont automatically put the samples in the right place in the timeline, but if you record a count in on the original tracks, lining them up should be easy enough. I've done similar with old 4 track recordings.

Thanks, I'll try. I am curious -- 4 track cassette? Do they drift?thecontrolcentre wrote:If you have Live, and are able to set a tempo on the tracks you want to import, it should be really simple. Yeah, 4 track cassette (high speed). They can drift, but (in theory) Live should be able to fix that. Sometimes you have to get in there and set warp markers by hand.Trevor Jackson wrote:Thanks, I'll try. I am curious -- 4 track cassette? FYI Live 8 Suite doesn't include M4L ... Its an add on. Live 9 & 10 Suite include it as standard.
