Hello

Does anyone know if Reason supports "pot pick up" ?

I am struggling to use the Novation Launchkey in this respect, despite installing the Novation Reason script.

Every time I try to control a synth parameter, the on-screen knob / slides jumps to the current Launchkey pot position.

Is the issue likely to lie with Reason, the Launchkey or both ?

The Launchkey doc for setting up with DAWs (incl Reason) appears to suggest this should work.

Thanks

I think you need to use that InControl thing. Install the Reason Script Installer from the Novation website, and see if it is working then: https://novationmusic.de/support/produc ... =Launchkey

I’m not familiar with the Launchkey or their Reason script, but in general, this would be the responsibility of Reason and not that of an arbitrary controller. If a parameter is set to 127 and suddenly receives a CC value of 0, it is up to Reason to decide what to do with that information. The controller has no idea what the current values of Reason parameters might be.
Incomplete list of my gear: 1/8" audio input jack.

Reason defers intelligence about controllers to a programming interface called Remote. It typically falls on the third party manufacturer's shoulders to implement how their interface works under Reason. this includes things like latching mode or what knob sends what midi control value.

After looking at the Launchkey Mini Reason Guide I don't see anything in it regarding latching pickup. I also downloaded the Remote scripts and looked at them, they're coded in Lua. All I see in there is a 1:1 mapping from the knobs to Reason device values.

It looks like the launchkey doesn't support latching mode for Reason, at least from what I can tell. The most recent Reason script was released in 2013: I don't expect Novation to add this feature to an older product any time soon.

This can be done in reason, Remote provides a mechanism for two-way communication. A good example of (a more expensive) solution is Nektar's Panorama P1 which uses endless rotary encoders to do what you want. I haven't tried it but the aging Berhinger BCR2000 might also work great for this.

I'm actually considering the Kontrol Master since I don't need real-time access to controls and prefer one good-quality rotary over several cheaper ones. It just dropped in price by $100 so I'm waiting if that means a rev 2 is coming to winter NAMM or not.

Hope this helps.
Feel free to call me Brian.

Thanks - really helpful.

Novation support have now acknowledged their documentation is incorrect/misleading - their Reason script does not support pot pick up. This has been passed on to the development team, but I won't hold my breath for an update.

I'm really p****d off with them about this. I purchased the unit to help reinvigorate my creative juices - it seemed like a nice little controller to noodle with my laptop & Reason / Abelton Live whilst my wife watched TV etc. (my main DAW barely gets switched anymore as have small children, but it does have BCR & BCF attached so all is not lost).

The blurb on the website suggested it worked well with Reason, but without this very basic functionality I'll be mostly using Live I think !
