So, what DAW did it for you?

Tracktion. Partially because I won a license in a drawing or something (version 1 was a long time ago), but mostly because it's the only DAW which makes any sense whatsoever to my admittedly weird mind. You just put things in the order you like, and get on with your music. No secret codes, no incomprehensible metaphors, no waving of a dead chicken to curry favor. Honestly, the only real issue I've had is remembering where the fscking live monitoring option button lives! I've tried the vast majority of DAWs with free or trial versions, and I still don't understand what Reaper or Studio One are all about... Tracktion, however, lets me forget it even exists. Oddly enough, discovering it was also the first (and maybe only) time I ever thought a GUI was worth the performance hit.
Wait... loot _then_ burn? D'oh!

This is me too, Tracktion from v1. Only difference is, after Mackie had abandoned it, around 2011, I tried Ableton Live, loved it, and never looked back. Tracktion was my first love.

Bought and sold Studio One - just not comparable to Cubase 9.5
For my hardware Bitwig 2 does it

I’ve tried many DAWs and they all did it for me.
This.

Renoise. Back in the days when I was a robot. Fond memories.

In the 80s I was using a Yamaha QX5. Then I bought an Atari 1024.
Tried Pro12 and Pro24, couple of others whose names I can't remember.
Then I saw a documentary about Torvill and Dean. There was a short sequence (no pun intended) showing Cubase's score editor. And that was that. Cubase ever since.

Live had support for VST effects from version 1 onwards, and for VST instruments from version 4 ;). For me, if I had to choose the single most "did it for me" DAW, it would have to be Live 4 with its added VSTi support. I guess if we include trackers and audio editors in this, technically something like early Scream Tracker and Digiplayer versions DID IT for me, meaning that they set me on this path for good, but Live 4 was the environment that did it in the sense of this thread.

Yeah , I had got Tracktion 1 for free right before they came out with T2 Mackie version. It was my 1st host I ever used . Since then the only other host I've liked is StudioOne and I still have Tracktion/Waveform I use too .

I love secret codes, incomprehensible metaphors,
the waving of a dead chicken and infinite long
menu trees. Honestly said: Without these life

1986: Casio SK-1 Sampling Keyboard

And what I'd consider, the first true active production daw I was happy with in the 1990's, utilising sample editing and external midi synthesizers.

I'll sell you my Waveform V8 of Traction. It really is a nice and powerful DAW, but what did it for me was Mixcraft 8 pro.

For the most part it just works, and I end up having the least amount of problems in it. I am able to easily drag and drop audio/midi clips around on the timeline to edit, or in the performance panel for arrangement.
I like how I'm also able to upload the tunes when I am finished with the tune.

It may not be the most feature complete DAW, but it does the trick for me. I wouldn't use another DAW if it were given away free ... with the exception of RealBand which is given away free with BIAB. RB is kind of clunky, but it's a pretty capable DAW and can hold its own.

That's when I compose in BIAB I'll still end up in MC8 to add the finishing touch. Most of the time I will just jump right into MC and start recording ideas into the performance panel, and then go from there.

Don't get it twisted, there are a lot of things that I don't like. The loop library is online, Midi VST support is one of the best, but there are some issues that you will find on their forums regarding the issues.

I really just started using it, so time will tell if it will hold out. I haven't really tried to max it out, and I'm just a bedroom producer, so I wouldn't call my setup professional.

Does anyone want to get me in a conversation about MuLab? It is looking and feeling very pleasant these days, and version 8 is close. It is the one I usually go to, man it opens so fast, is simply elegant, like man just whammo...

I also could say that I am quite interested in the next major update to Studio One.

Cubase, both in the past (2002/2003) and now (between that, I wasted my time with several DAWs!) ;)
Using: Cubase Pro 15, Bitwig 5, Tascam US-4x4HR, MODX6, DM12D, LaunchKey 49, Yamaha guitar(Pacifica 612v) and bass (BB234) and some virtual instruments and synths.
