I currently have Alesis M1 Active monitors. I don't find them very accurate. I am looking for studio monitors that have a flat, clean, accurate, perfect frequency response, and at the same time not very expensive. I do not want monitors that will produce inconsistent frequency levels when changing the overall volume. I'm not looking for reference monitors used for standard music listening, but for monitors that i will use to produce/mix/engineer tracks.
A while ago, I was looking at the KrK V8 monitors. Are those good?
Also, is it needed to have a subwoofer?
Studio monitors...

Er sub up to you, the KRK is a good choice, i went for the dynaudio BM6A's. Took me about 3 months to choose the monitors. The KRK's were the second choice. both very good monitors, i love the dyna's, make sure you have good sound card, balanced connections. And when i heard the dyna's in my room, my jaw dropped, i couldn't believe how good they were. even though i heard them before twice.

I have the Fostex PM1s and couldn't be happier.
The bass goes down to 50 Hz, then the cutoff is quite steep. A sub-woofer would definitely help here for those wanting to hear lower. It is suficient to me.
The mids are quite revealing and the treble is sweet.
Their sound is very accurate/tight overall and I really haven't suffered from listening fatigue.
Check'em out if you can and consider the bigger PM2s too.
Haven't heard the KRKs but they seem to be very good monitors.
Cheers

I have the same monitors and to my ears, they sound good. I am new to monitors and have no experience.
