Wow what a drag

I have spin EQ on my machine it came as part of Virtual mixing console. All installed fine and the EQ sounds very nice.
Sorry to hear of the problems of the eq version on CM, But I dont beleive it had anything to do with spin audio. I have been a registered user of some of there products for some time. Never had a problem.
Who knows though??

I own the SpinAudio stuff, and I know the full version doesnt do this. However their installers usually asks for two install locations... one for the 'gubbins' of SpinEQ (ie it relies on some external .dll's and stuff) and one location that's your VST folder.

I wonder what's happening here... maybe you've given it your VST folder name for the 'gubbins' folder and its wiped everything there. Sounds highly odd.

As for headquest thinking everything on the CM studio are a 'pain in the arse'; I have to disagree. I still regularly use SR202, and OhmyGod and Im quite happy with the CM vocoder and the PSP reverb.

Im just not sure. Installers can get screwed up, and if the wrong folder is getting cleared it could happen. I aint gonna test it myself to find out!

HI

User error my arse!

This is some kinda coincidence I will agree but here goes; I have been demoing the Spin reverb and EQ and decided to uninstall them last night so I tried the Spin uninstaller and got a "key not found" box come up, so I went to Add/Remove programs in the Control Panel (this is the recommended way to remove programs from Windows) and removed Spin EQ - Viola MY WHOLE F.....G VST FOLDER was wiped of everything that was not in a folder - in other words ALL the DLL, CFG, readme's and any file that was not in a folder within the VST PLUGIN Folder was gone!!!

Thank goodness I keep system restore on, I managed to salvage and return the folder to normal and had to remove (bit by bit) all the various files relating to Spin EQ and Reverb, I have been using computers for music for over a decade and know what I am doing (mostly) and can only assume that there is a combination of things that conspire to cause this to happen, I don't have a problem with Spin products but would suggest that it is down to a bug of some kind.

The thing that had irritated me about the two Vst's was the amount of files (text files of some discription) that were installed into the Vst folder I had tried to bunch them up into a logical folder but this had stopped the programs from working.

These programs were DEMO's downloaded from Spin's site and checked for viruses.

All I would say is be aware that you MIGHT have a problem - as I said I don't have issue with Spin per se but if you don't have system restore on and this happens to you it is gonna end in tears  .

sounds like the install.log is beeing messed up and the root folder makes its way into it (instead of the software's own subfolder) - badass. had issues like that myself in the past with all kinds of software. you probably can't be aware of these things apart from frequently backing up the system. however, thanks for letting us know.

hi all,

this is Dan from SpinAudio.

let me comment the situation:

1) The installer asks you for three folders (or two if you have already installed any of SpinAudio plug-ins)
- Common (for shared components)
- Product folder (where all the plug-in related files are resided)
- AND VST PLUG-INS folder where the VST shell of the plug-in is copied
This cleary stated in the setup!!! Moreover the setup offers the default locations for these folders including the proper location of your vst plug-ins folder.

2) SpinEQ is based on old setup that has a bug that if something wrong went during the installation it removes all the files in the Product folder...

SO IF you have choosen your VST plug-ins as Product folder, you might get your VST folders cleaned

(RoomVerb M2 and VMC are based on new setup that dont have this bug)

Of course this is our fault, and I'm sorry for that, but please read what setup tells you.

Best Regards

Hmm, Ok, I take back my user error insult

I'm a cusomter (bought the fx package) and I would expect you to fix the bug on the fx package too. To tell you the truth I feel a little left out because it seems you ignore this package and focus all your attention on the better reverb. Are there any plans to ever update the plugs I bought(not just the bug but updates in general).

Sorry went off topic everyone

"Please read what the setup tells you". What I read is you've released a buggy installer and then act like it's the user's fault for not following your overcomplicated install procedure. It's just an EQ for pete's sake. People like to customise their vst-fxb-cfg etc folder configurations and any decent software should allow this without wiping an entire folder clean. Luckily I don't have that issue of CM yet so I've been forewarned. But you can add Spin Audio to the rather short list of companies with which I will not do business.

well you kind of left out what else was said "Of course this is our fault, and I'm sorry for that" You are missing some good products. Verb included in the bundle for 95 bucks is incredible, same with the delay.

Teksonik,

I think you took his post the wrong way for some reason - I can tell you Dan is a very cool guy - I've worked with him a lot in the past with various things. He's just warning users to pick the right folders so this doesn't happen.
