Anyone else make any musical plans/resolutions? Are they equally as successful?
Resolutions?

I've never been a big one for these New Years things (give up smoking?
) but this year I thought that after playing guitar for 35 years I might give fingerpicking a proper go with my fat fingers. After nearly two weeks (doing at least half an hour a day) I've today managed to play something for about 10 seconds without messing up.

I suck at resolutions, but starting in 2016 I made musical plans for each year and they've worked out well... they got the creative flow going like a firehose, and listening to my own music a lot of work helped me figure out what works well and what doesn't.
For 2018 my plan is to keep recording a lot with that same fast workflow and release the best of it as albums. I'm only keeping finished mixes, and won't go back and fix anything, aside from mastering.
So far so good -- 7 songs recorded, and I'm starting to think the hardest part of this might be choosing which ones to exclude. There are a couple I have minor doubts about at the current moment, but they don't suck.

trying harder with actual timing/rhythm
try modal
a big one for me is to write parts rather than just noodle and record.
i find this difficult as i just really enjoy the process of making noise, not like the rest of my life is organised and planned

I promised myself already last fall that I'll release an EP on Bandcamp this spring. For some reason it's important for me, even though music has always been purely self-indulgent adventure in creativity. Unfortunately my dayjob career picked up majorly at around the same time I made that promise, and I seem to be travelling more than I'm at home, so shit seems unlikely. Maybe I get some portable hotel room setup.
