Massive reality check here.. The awkward arm positioning just completely throws all past experience on other instruments out of the window. So, despite being really discouraged the first couple days, I made a yt chan to hopefully give me motivation to actually learn how to play Violin half-decently.

really great video. I believe you can learn it. You seem super gifted at playing instruments.

It's the bowing technique that threw me personally. As in, getting clean contact when moving the bow over the strings and avoiding the squeaks or sudden silence. I found plucking - or heaven forbid strumming - wasn't that difficult once I got used to no frets and the tiny spacing between notes (I have really big hands).
Keep it up; you'll get there if you have the motivation and want to be able to play the violin. I was more interested in trying it out to understand how the instrument works for the purpose of programming violin parts. I only borrowed the violin from a friend for a few weeks, but could do a somewhat passable version of the Greensleaves melody by the end. I was however aware that it takes a long time to get anywhere with violin so I was pretty pleased with that. I'm not sure I have the patience required to put up with sounding like crap for months and months before I get the technique even halfway there...
I keep meaning to get the violin we have lying around restrung (inherited from my wife's grandfather). Not sure the neighbours would be so keen though!
