I'm not for or against Reaper. It's stable and has great features. If it had a nicer default look, and started with a minimal amount of features visible it would win more fans. It's not a lack of capabilities, it's how they're presented that sends so many users scurrying for cover. And fascinates others no doubt.

So … Reaper is Emacs?

Joke, yes? :-D But be kinder to Reaper...

I would probably do a lot more with Reaper than i would with something like Emacs. I can at least get where Reaper wants to go, but the whole command-line-or-die mentality, near-zero interface, cryptic commands/controls and whatnot ideology of classic Unix tools ... no sir! I've already done my hard time at the command line! :-D

If I could use Emacs as a DAW with pro plugins and multitrack recording I probably would. Until then, there's REAPER :-)

You mean Vim, surely?

Polarization occurs when people tell other people what their actual thought is; and now there is the thing of acting like you want to know but reality is you've dismissed that out-of-hand so that is just another opportunity to state your disposition.

I don't have any opinion on 'you want these things from your experience', but the thread is 'Polarized opinions about Reaper' which translates to 'KVR polarization due to a certain quality of REAPER fan activity here' really.

not even just the quality of reaper fan activity here - the Reaper experience to some extent requires visiting the Reaper forum for many users due to the nature of the application and the way it develops. And the Reaper forum has plenty of problems with the attitudes expressed there - a lot of which would get you banned at the forums I prefer. Which is a shame because there are also many helpful people.

Frankly i don't know what you mean.. i use forums mainly for learning.
it is very easy to skip pass threads that are basically argument for arguments sake? the net is full of such stuff, just ignore it. i don't really care if someone is just venting/hating about reaper/fl studio etc. it is trivial, meaningless. it's just so much a part of the scenery. i have learned a lot from the reaper forums as i have from various others like Fl Studio.

Like I implied earlier, put 20 guys in a room and ask them what restaurants they like and come back a half hour later and someone will be arguing because someone said they like Red Lobster and someone else said they hate Red Lobster, and one of both of them will take the others preference or opposite opinion as a personal insult. That's just what guys do.

Change restaurants to DAWs, add the Internet and anonimity to multiply it all by some magnitude = "as inevitable and predictable as anything ever gets". It's not REAPER, it's almost anything. :hihi:

If I said Black & Decker makes the best tools someone would disagree and want to argue it for 10 pages.

That's why Facebook is so rich, people mostly grouping in "choir" groups daily or hourly to dismiss other people who are "wrong" about something. :)

Forums differ quite a bit according to the moderation and the culture that develops. The Reaper forum is quite different to the Samplitude forum, KVR is quite different to VI-Control.

I've personally never found Red Lobster to be all that intuitive. It just doesn't... inspire me. :hihi:

This is true. Keep in mind that people in anger or disagreeing are more active for longer so for things supported by advertising, some level of arguing or disagreement is good for the bottom line, keeping those people online and engaged.
