Wait, they aren't supporting 10.11 anymore, why, it's new flat thing from barely 3 years ago, what is obsolete on it now, what is this nonsense?
This entire forum is wading through predictions, opinions, barely formed thoughts, drama, and whining. If you don't enjoy that, why are you here?

Yes, they want us to buy new macs every 2 years, seems like. We are at the point when hardware is sufficient enough and we can comfortably use it at least 5+ years without changing, but now developers are artificially implementing "planned obsolescence" in software and Apple already proved that is doing that with iphone which is a mass commercial product.
Imagine what they can do with professional apps then, when they know it's our tool for making living :/ ..
I still have a system with Snow Leopard and Logic 9 and I will keep it forever, I think, it works perfectly

- There is now an option to switch the first automation lane in a track to show the last clicked control. (Like in Ableton Live!)
- The Files Browser now allows you to bookmark locations for your favorite folders containing samples or projects.
This is HUGE!!! Finally.

Pffft, I should be so Lucy to have a Mac that lasts that long. I'm currently on my fourth in 10 years...and I will add, my last. The shoddy quality control in their manufacturing, the over the top extortionate prices for repairs and the general reduction in specs for increasing prices for the hardware has, for me, finally outweighed the convenience of the software platform I have become used to.Zexila wrote:Same.trancema wrote:I still have a system with Snow Leopard and Logic 9 and I will keep it forever, I think, it works perfectly
Much as I have enjoyed using Logic as my main DAW for years and realising that it still equates to amazing value software, I am ready to switch to Ableton on the PC platform when this iMac dies (by my reckoning, another 2 1/2 years as it is now a year old)

I don't understand how can it die ? Power? CPU ? MB?jacqueslacouth wrote:Pffft, I should be so Lucy to have a Mac that lasts that long. I have even older Macbook but not using it much. The one with Logic 9 is also pretty old Macbook Pro late 2008, core2duo, used and abused but still like new, few scratches on the bottom only.
I've upgraded memory to 8GB and put in SSD and it still works perfectly.
I never had either Mac or PC that just died for no reason. One PC had power supply blown but replaced it and that's it. I usually sell my old PCs and Macs and hopefully my current Mac Pro will last, too
I am using both Mac and PC over 20 years and I am happy with both systems.

My first MacBook Pro 3,1 died from the documented GPU thermal defect. It lasted longer than Apple's free repair service program for this issue, because, by the time i started having problems, they were out of replacement logic boards. A system that should've kept going to this day is garbage i can't even unload for $25 for parts on Craig's List.trancema wrote:I don't understand how can it die ? Power? CPU ? My MacBook Pro 5,5 is treated with a lot more care (as in, i don't game on it and i handle it [even MORE] delicately). It's a 13" though, so it's really insufficient for photography and, really, Logic. i finally bought a second-hand iMac 12,2 to hold me over until Apple finally offers a legit Mac Pro (not these insanely expensive, throttled iMac Pro things, and not the curious-but-ultimately-a-failure 2013 Mac Pros). It came to me rebuilt, badly, and i don't trust it will last me very long (the hard drive fan is also noisy). It's a nightmare to service, so i doubt i will attempt to upgrade the hard drive to an SSD like i did for my MacBook Pro 5,5 (it really sped up that system beautifully).
My dead MacBook 3,1 is my only dead machine, but the point was made: compact all-in-one systems are badly designed, thermally, and one part dying results in having no computer (and if Apple has the part to sell you, which is unlikely after 2 years, you will pay out the ass for the repair).

I have two Konnekt 24D’s connected to two Macs (2013 Mac Pro, 2014 MacBook Air), both updated to High Sierra, haven’t encountered any problems with the interfaces. YMMV, of course.Jace-BeOS wrote: EDIT: Anyone using TC Electronic Konnekt devices? i found a thread where some people say it works with High Sierra and some say it doesn't. http://forum.tcelectronic.com/topic/226 ... patibility
About Logic: WHOA that was a long list of updates. ARA support is indeed huge, been waiting for it forever (although I have never even seen it in practice, but I’m hoping it’s as cool as it sounds
In any case, nice to see Logic still getting so much love and support! I think 2018 marks my 22nd year as a Logic user... or is it already 23rd? A lot of years, anyway.
