Pffft, I should be so Lucy to have a Mac that lasts that long. I'm currently on my fourth in 10 years...and I will add, my last. The shoddy quality control in their manufacturing, the over the top extortionate prices for repairs and the general reduction in specs for increasing prices for the hardware has, for me, finally outweighed the convenience of the software platform I have become used to.

Much as I have enjoyed using Logic as my main DAW for years and realising that it still equates to amazing value software, I am ready to switch to Ableton on the PC platform when this iMac dies (by my reckoning, another 2 1/2 years as it is now a year old)
Such a different experience from me... I've had quite few Apple computers over the years and the shortest lifespan for any of them was 7 years. Only that one died... all the rest I retired (gave away) still functional.

Anyway, Logic 10.4 is an impressive update!! :o :tu:

Yup! First Macbook Pro lasted over 7 years, and only died when a cat with wet feeties jumped on the keyboard which I'm sure caused something to fry inside.

I'm now on my 2nd Macbook Pro. Although I bought it second-hand in 2014, it is actually coming on for it''s sixth birthday. Not only am I comfortably running 10.12 Sierra, but i qualify for High Sierra, and in turn qualify for this Logic upgrade. Even if my Macbook is barred from 10.14, I will still be covered for a few more Logic upgrades, likely including the big '11'. So please stop with this 'having to buy a new Mac every 2 years' stuff.

As for planned obsolescence. It wasn't long ago that Apple lifted the barrier to entry on more modern OS' dating back to computers from 2008. Of course, that might not serve pro applications, but then pro applications require pro computing overheads.

You can make music on a very cheap laptop (Yes, even a cheap second-hand Mac), with cheap/free software that eclipses the power of analogue studios that existed when I first got into making music. I remember fantasy-specc'ing recording studio equipment over 20 years ago, and it was not anything I could have afforded. So, even if it were true that I had to buy a Mac every few years to own what many consider as one of the top recording packages, then I would consider it a bargain, If I couldn't afford it (And that may be true, the next time around), then I'm completely prepared to adapt to a new set of tools, at a fraction of the cost.

You don't need High Sierra for 10.4, just Sierra.

is 10.12 stable? any qualms for audio use?

Yup! That is the way to do it. Download, but don't install. Then you'll always have it in your store account.

As for stability: I've not experienced any problems with it, but I'm no power user, and my plugin folder/hardware needs are both quite conservative.

Thank you! Was compulsively checking all news sources to find out if a new version was indeed coming out (they released an update to 10.3 just before Christmas). Wanted to buy the Pro Apps Bundle but didn’t want to be burnt by them releasing a paid upgrade right after that.
We’re now safe from paid upgrades for a little while.
And some of these new features do sound rather useful. Maybe not gamechanging, but that wasn’t the pont.
It's just a guess of course... but I don't think there will be a paid update for Logic anytime in the next 4 years.

I have two Konnekt 24D’s connected to two Macs (2013 Mac Pro, 2014 MacBook Air), both updated to High Sierra, haven’t encountered any problems with the interfaces. YMMV, of course. :)
Thank you for submitting your anecdotal experience with Konnekt devices and High Sierra :-)

And that's the customer having to game Apple's stupid system... i don't have Sierra downloaded.

Same problem here - but you can still get it:

Incidentally though - is there any way to install High Sierra without having to install the new file system? (which is evidently broken)

Thank you! :-) Downloading now. Still can't put it on my backup machine. Or is there a way to get Sierra onto an unsupported MacBook Pro 5,5 (2009)?

i've read there is, but i don't know how because i don't have a system with an Apple SSD on it and i didn't make a note of the procedure.

It might be a stupid system, and we may be 'gaming' it. However, at least you now know what to do in future :tu:

Just a few days ago I thoroughly investigated High Sierra and decided not to install it. I'm sticking to Sierra as it seems to work really well for my late 2014 iMac Mini + RME Babyface Pro.

The new FX are absolutely awesome by the way. Ridiculously generous update of Logic.

Oh is it only for SSD's? - I'd be OK if so
