Yeah, I know. Took me a while to catch on. Sometimes, I am a bit naive and too trusting. This iMac set me back €3,300. I can't afford to do that again anytime soon.

Sure, but then there was Sierra and High Sierra. Three OSs in three years seems a bit much. Who wants to mess around with compatibility issues that often. Also - it wouldn't be as bad if 10.12 and 10.13 weren't artificially non-specced for older machines. Maybe I'll try to install Sierra on my ancient yet sufficient 2008 Mac Pro. I know it can be done in a roundabout way.teilo wrote:10.11 is three years old.parma wrote:Not supporting 10.11 is a load of crap. I'm sick of new OS's every other month.

Then upgrade every 2-3 years... you do not have to do it annuallyparma wrote:Sure, but then there was Sierra and High Sierra. Three OSs in three years seems a bit much. You missed the part where I'm using a machine that is artificially prohibited from using the latest OS. I know, I know - it's ancient. But it works for my needs and can absolutely run Sierra/High Sierra if it were allowed to.pdxindy wrote:Then upgrade every 2-3 years... you do not have to do it annuallyparma wrote:Sure, but then there was Sierra and High Sierra. I can't seem to update the User Manual, although Instruments updated. Hmmmm.

Hackintosh. Or a used mini from 2012 on.parma wrote:You missed the part where I'm using a machine that is artificially prohibited from using the latest OS. I know, I know - it's ancient. I agree, this constant upgrade of the OS is way more about revenue than it is ringing in the future.
All that said, I'm way more impressed with this LPX update than a lot of the others I've seen recently. Life is good all around though.

updated to 10.12.6 seems fine. took me about 30 minutes of trial and error to find the terminal hack to kill the notification center and remove its icon from the menu bar after the update brought it back from previously being nuked..
otherwise so far so good. logic plug in updates are flat flat flat as we know.. strange to see in some cases. the camel audio plugs translate weirdly to that gui style but will get used to it.. the new reverb seems a straight up rip off of fabfilter reverb.. but it sounds pretty nice and works well.. easy to change models etc..
i guess i'm good for now until they break compatibility w/10.12... maybe by then i won't care about updating anymore

Yeah, I'm probably going to start looking at used. I would like to quit Apple just out of principal but I'm so comfortable with OSX.jonljacobi wrote:

It's way too much.parma wrote:Sure, but then there was Sierra and High Sierra. Three OSs in three years seems a bit much.teilo wrote:10.11 is three years old.parma wrote:Not supporting 10.11 is a load of crap. I'm sick of new OS's every other month.
Not me; i can't afford to buy new gear every time some company stops updating drivers for new Mac OS versions (or just abandons their product overall). This is WHY i'm still on Snow Leopard and Logic 9.xparma wrote:Who wants to mess around with compatibility issues that often.

Please post more info on this. i've considered it for my MacBook Pro 5,5, which was left behind by Sierra (despite a lesser-specced MacBook being supported).parma wrote:Maybe I'll try to install Sierra on my ancient yet sufficient 2008 Mac Pro. I know it can be done in a roundabout way.

i'd rather quit computers altogether than go back to PC builds. It's just voodoo. Add in an unsupported OS to the mix? Worse voodoo.jonljacobi wrote:Hackintosh. Or a used mini from 2012 on.

I'm using 10.12(.6) on a 2011 MBP. Have used it on a 2010 machine. I wouldn't hold out much hope for the 2008 models.parma wrote:10.12 and 10.13 weren't artificially non-specced for older machines.
