Well, at this price (260CAD for Final Cut Pro, Logic Pro X, MainStage, Motion, and Compressor) even one year would be enough for me. It just would have been a pretty big bummer to buy this and have to upgrade a week later.pdxindy wrote:It's just a guess of course... but I don't think there will be a paid update for Logic anytime in the next 4 years.Enkerli wrote: We’re now safe from paid upgrades for a little while.
The way Apple works, they’re likely to maintain compatibility for a couple of years. In my case, that’s great value.
At some point, there might be a bigger shift. My hope is for something bigger on the iOS side, especially on the iPad Pro (probably announced in the Spring). Once that comes, it’s likely to be compatible with the current Logic Pro X licenses. But it might eventually require a new license. Compared to the price of so many other things in this world, that’s actually reasonable.
(Oh, and my main machine is a 2012 MacBook Pro running macOS High Sierra, with no compatibility or performance issue to speak of. Got this one on eBay a few months ago for 400$CAD and added a 1TB SSD on my own. APFS is my filesystem from the start.
Of course, one could build a cheaper setup with higher performance, etc. But it suits my needs for macOS/iOS musicking, in parallel with my Raspbian and DAWfree setups.)
In some ways, Logic is likely to become my first DAW. Been trying to enjoy Tracktion Waveform, but it doesn’t really do it, for me. Not that it really feels limited, but the onboarding experience leaves a lot to be desired. Logic has the benefit of having quite a bit of training material, out there. Chances are that Bitwig would be my favourite DAW, but the sales didn’t go low enough for my tastes and the 2.3 update isn’t that compelling.

had 10.12 saved in my app store purchaseusually do that w/all the OS so i can have them there when finally being dragged to update.
is 10.12 stable? any qualms for audio use?
everything you download or purchase through the app store is saved in the 'purchases' section when you log in to the app store. so, for the new OS updates you don't even have to download the whole thing.. just click download.. let it run for like 10 or 15 seconds then stop the download. then it'll be in your purchases section for later if you want it.. it's the only way to get the OS in there for later use/install.
you can download and then fish the installer out of your applications folder and make a bootable disk w/a thumb drive. apple even ha instructions for doing this somewhere.. it's on a bunch of OS X blogs and stuff too.

Since so much of the posts here are about OS versions instead of Logic Pro X 10.4: is there an easy way to split the thread into a discussion about Logic and a discussion about OS alternatives? Both can be interesting but it gets a bit confusing.

Again, NO, this is not how it works. They've been removing OS versions from purchased lists. Without a direct link to the hidden OS on the store (available still for Sierra, for example), you wont find it in your store list. This is also the case with apps you've bought which developers are no longer selling. You wont find them in your purchased list.dayjob wrote:el-bo (formerly ebow) wrote:It might be a stupid system, and we may be 'gaming' it. Download Mac OS versions, but don't install them. Put the installer on a backup device and hold on to it in case you need it. Don't rely on the App Store.

the only things removed from my purchases are a couple apps not around anymore... but ALL the OS X versions back to 2012 (OS X Lion) are still there for download.Jace-BeOS wrote:

Does anyone know where the New Visions library for Alchemy with the 150 cinematic presets is that's mentioned in the release notes? How can I access the new presets?

I downloaded sierra just before high sierra dropped but it's not showing up on my purchased tab. If you need to grab sierra go here https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT208202 there is a link near the bottom of the page that goes to the app store where you can grab sierra. New update looks very tasty, I'll probably have to disable sip to use kore still, then I'm good to go.

Are there supposed to be presets for Chroma Reverb and Vintage EQs? Don't seem to be any here. Also no idea why they don't use bigger fonts to fill up a wee bit more of these vast expanses of empty space.

I saw someone point out that the presets are contained in one of the optional downloads (near the bottom of the list?).Winstontaneous wrote:Are there supposed to be presets for Chroma Reverb and Vintage EQs? Agreed about the layout... Apple is continually not demonstrating wisdom in GUI design...

Guys, could we leave Apple OS upgrade policy and focus on what's brought us here - the new Logic? Thank you
And regarding the new update: any impressions so far? I will do the update later today, saw an impressive video on Smart Tempo:
I'm very interested in the new plugins (EQ, ChromaVerb) and updated SpaceDesigner..

If you have Sierra still there, you are one lucky fellow, and an exception.dayjob wrote:the only things removed from my purchases are a couple apps not around anymore... but ALL the OS X versions back to 2012 (OS X Lion) are still there for download.Jace-BeOS wrote:
