Strange. I have Mavericks, Yosemite and El Cap in my purchased list, though this computer came stock with El Cap, and has never seen Mavericks and Yosemite (though my last Mac did).
I upgraded to Sierra. Mixed feelings about it. Computer boots more slowly. Am downloading the new content now, so I can't really comment about the Logic update yet.

^^^ I had a similar slowdown with a recent OS update and fixed it with a diagnostic program called EtreCheck. Apple Support Communities use it to share de-identified system data. It helps you clean up faulty kernel extensions, unnecessary launch agents/daemons, and other System junk. Also check if your audio interface needs a new driver and firmware.

Woah, the ChromaVerb is the new king in let my fans spinning and even rattling after a while....at least when i turn the (nice looking) GUI effect on.
So far a great update but i also wish they finally let me store all the additional content and presets on my extern SSD without i have to create Alias and do it every time again after an update.
I just want to have the choice to "save to".
However, all the content, FX and instruments i got now for the €179 i payed once for Logic it is just a great value and keeps giving more and more.
The new Verb and EQ are really great. Camel Space and Phat is back too and i personally like the new GUI more than the old blurry thing.
Alchemy got a lot stuff added too.
Beside some sample libraries, creative FX and special synths i don´t think i need to buy anything for mixing and mastering. I already find the Logic included stuff good (or even better) as Fabfilter or similar "famous" stuff which cost sometimes even more than Logic itself.
Say about Apple what you want but no DAW give you that for such a low entree price.

Thanks for the tip. Yeah, I have to update the drivers for my rme fireface, but it will have to wait untl the new content has downloaded, as it requires a re-start.

Still waiting for my Pro Apps Bundle to be “shipped through email”. (Which apparently isn’t about checking education status.) Really getting excited about Logic.
Eventually noticed some mentions of horns, buried in the release notes. Curious about the articulations. Haven’t been that much of a fan of instrumental samples, but there’s something nice about playing with more fluid articulations, especially with a wind controller. Since the sampler accepts MPE, that can make for nice live stuff (especially once it’s added to MainStage).

I posted this on Gearslutz, and since you asked:Enkerli wrote:Still waiting for my Pro Apps Bundle to be “shipped through email”. (Which apparently isn’t about checking education status.) Really getting excited about Logic.

I opened the Studio Tenor Sax 1 in the EXS24. It reminds me of a Monolith in that it is similar to Drum Kit Designer with very large CAFs. This sax is about six layers in the EXS Instrument Editor. The Studio String Ensemble is functioning like a Multi with different instruments all playing in one very large EXS Object comprised of many, many layers. Sounding pretty good too.
Furthermore, I have the new Chroma Reverb on an AUX Send. It sounds in the league of some of the better third party AUs I routinely use, at least upon first blush. The GUI almost looks like a huge Ableton Live EFX. Unexpectedly nice!

You're already paying for the updates by buying a Mac that costs up to nearly double of what it's actually worth every few years.killmaster wrote:Has to be the best value in a DAW!! Amazing what they offer. I can't think of another company that wouldn't be charging for these updates...

I think the competition has infiltrated the troops & that's their smokescreen to divert attention from how amazing a point release 10.4 actually is.Cinebient wrote:Not really. As posted on Gearslutz:
This made PC Mag; the article is surprisingly good too:
https://www.pcmag.com/news/358715/apple ... 0-4-update
"Logic Pro 10.4 is another free update for existing users, which Apple points out is the 20th such update since Pro X's launch in the summer of 2013—a clear dig at subscription-based competitors like Avid Pro Tools and the now-defunct Cakewalk SONAR. Truth be told, don't be fooled by the point update nomenclature. There's a ton of new content and tools to work with here; other manufacturers have done full version-number upgrades for less...Stay tuned for our full review.."

While the price of Reaper is really good, I really don't think that these two can be compared in terms of content (both in terms of quality and quantity) to price ratio.Enkerli wrote:Cue the Reaper section in 4… 3… 2…Cinebient wrote:Say about Apple what you want but no DAW give you that for such a low entree price.

Any comments on general CPU usage etc with 10.4? I'm on 10.3.3 on a 2015 MacBook Pro - 2.2ghz, Sierra at present - and usually pushing the thing to it's limits.

I'd recommend a Clock Speed of over 3.0GHz, preferably 3.5GHz if you use a lot of VIs, but if 10.3.3 was OK on your system, 10.4 should be too. You might have an issue with the likes of ChromaVerb as it can take a lot of the Single Core's overall processing power, and this is the area where Clock Speed really matters (as many a Kontakt or Serum user knows.)andymcbain wrote:Any comments on general CPU usage etc with 10.4?
