It looks quite a bit better to me, and yes the angled area below the knobs is whats
distracting. To me it looks like the specular hi-lights along the edges are too soft to
convey the angle, so the eye doesn't quite know what to make of it.
Its pretty minor, some suggestions I would offer to correct that would be:
1, add some very light texture to the metal surface, a brushed metal in
the direction of the angle would help probably. Or maybe just dirty it
up with some scratches or other imperfections. Too perfect to be real
is one of the most common mistakes in image synthesis. You would be surprised
how distracting that can be.
2, Play with the lighting, try some different colors, lighting is almost
never even close to uniform in color. Low intensity, blues, yellows and reds can do
wonders. Also negative lighting might help, if your renderer supports that.
3, use a good global illumination solution, or image based lighting if
you're after the most photo-realism.
4, don't worry about it, it looks very good as it is.

I don't find the angled section distracting at all. The box modeling and shadows look just lovely. If there is a problem it's outside the (stomp)box and then its only minor.

The more I look at this, the better it looks. Awesome job, seriously. I guess if I were doing the
art direction, I wouldn't count on improving the image by very much via lighting or rendering.
I would probably make the decision to utilize the background to create depth rather than just
have it look good and fill space. I think I would call for a light depth of field on everything
below the top face of the unit. Just to keep the user focused where I needed them to be,
and add a ton of photorealism. Assuming that was the goal anyway.

So that's a thumbs up on the basic layout from everyone, which is the important thing
Here are the latest renders, this time with vertical orthographic projections. I've also started added a few scratches and scuffs. This is not the final lighting, this render turned out a bit dark.

I understand where the idea for the UI is coming from - but you might hate me for this. I do prefer the old grey.
Why? I do not treat the pedal as the famous green beast that is the "Tube Screamer", I mod your device. And for this, I don't need it to be green. Grey/Black is actually more than fine

I liked the black/grey version too. Too many green Tubescreamers and the black kind of set yours apart from all the other ones out there. That said. This still looks damn fine to me, though.

I also prefer the non or less-skeuomorphic beta UI. It was clearer, flatter and a I think a smaller footprint. All of which overall makes for clearer and better, in my view. This version is full of empty space... I just don't see the point of it compared with the beta UI (other than mix knobs).Compyfox wrote:I understand where the idea for the UI is coming from - but you might hate me for this. Perhaps we can have the option to switch between the two?
Are there sonic differences in the release version?
